Getting to Israel by Land or Sea

Borders

Israel has just over 1,000 km of borders with its neighbours: with Egypt (266 km), Jordan (307 km), Lebanon (79 km), and Palestine (West Bank) (307 km with the West Bank and 51 km with the Gaza Strip).

From Neighbouring Countries

Getting to Israel by land is quite limited. Borders with Lebanon or Syria are closed, and those with Gaza are also very often closed to foreigners. Borders with Egypt may also be closed depending on the current situation in the north, and occasionally even for the Taba-Eilat route. More generally, all these border areas are not really recommended (sometimes including the Golan) by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

This leaves possible crossing points to and from the West Bank and Jordan, which may still require time for entry requirements and security checks. Additionally, border crossings may sometimes have specific hours or close without notice. There are three crossing points in total: one in the north (near Beit Shean), one in the centre (Allenby/King Hussein Bridge near Jericho), and one in the south (near Eilat).
