Climate and Weather in Martinique
Climate Overview
Martinique has a relatively mild climate, and the heat is never excessive (though it can feel quite humid at certain times of the year), with daytime temperatures ranging between 25 and 30°C and nighttime temperatures between 20 and 25°C throughout the year. Additionally, the trade winds from the east and northeast make the atmosphere even more pleasant.
Martinique has two distinct seasons, with "intermediate" periods in between. The dry season runs from February to April. It is called "carême" (Lent) because it begins around Carnival. This is the most pleasant time to visit, with fine weather and just a few occasional showers. In contrast, the wet season, known as "hivernage," brings heavy humidity when the trade winds aren’t blowing, along with frequent afternoon rains that are heavier in the north than in the south. This period, from June to November, is the least ideal for visiting, especially since it’s also hurricane season, with the highest risk between August and October.
Other specific features of Martinique’s climate include rapid weather changes from sunshine to rain with a drop in temperature, and the east coast being wetter than the west coast. As for the sea, its temperature is always very pleasant.
Best Time to Visit Martinique
The period from February to April is the best time to visit if you want to avoid too much rain, occasional mugginess, and hurricanes, which can hit the island, particularly from August to October.
