Martinique is a top destination for beach tourism in the Caribbean. You can enjoy the stunning white-sand beaches in the south as well as the volcanic beaches in the north. In short, beach lovers and those seeking a relaxing seaside holiday will find plenty to enjoy, especially since the water is always at a pleasant temperature.

Diving

There are several dive centers in Martinique, some of which are part of the association "Martinique Destination Diving", which offers a "Privilege Card" (formerly the Madinina Pass) with discounted rates for dives at all member clubs.

The marine environment differs depending on whether you dive in the north or south of the island. For example, in the Bay of Saint-Pierre, you’ll discover a volcanic landscape with dramatic reliefs, where the wrecks of ships sunk during the 1902 eruption of Mount Pelée still lie. In the south, on the other hand, you’ll find the "classic" tropical scene: coral reefs, clear waters, fish, and white sand perfect for snorkeling.

Sailing

The Antilles and Martinique are a dream destination for sailing enthusiasts. The island has three major marinas (Fort-de-France, Pointe du Bout, and especially Le Marin), and there are plenty of opportunities for all budgets, preferences, and skill levels. A free guide, Ti'Ponton, is available at local tourist offices and is a great source of information for sailing enthusiasts.

Other Water Activities

Yole races: This is a typically Martinican activity that even gives rise to an annual event in July-August, the Tour de Martinique des Yoles Rondes. More to watch than to participate in.

Surfing: You can surf in a few spots around Martinique, primarily in the Caravelle Peninsula, which is home to the island’s only surf school. There are also opportunities near Le Diamant.

Watersports: You can try windsurfing, kitesurfing, bodyboarding, sea kayaking, and other activities at various coastal locations.

Thalassotherapy and Wellness

As is often the case in tourist destinations with high-end or all-inclusive hotels, some establishments offer wellness services open to both their guests and external visitors. Occasionally, there are also "thalassotherapy and wellness stays in Martinique" offered by mainland agencies.

Hiking

Hiking

While not a destination for long-distance hikers, Martinique offers some beautiful options with around 200 km of marked hiking trails managed by the ONF. The north, with its rugged terrain and forests, provides the best hikes—ranging from easy to moderately difficult and usually lasting a few hours. Among the highlights are the Mount Pelée, the Pitons du Carbet, the Grand Rivière-Anse Couleuvre trail, and the hike along the Canal de Beauregard.

Given the climate, it’s best to hike during the dry season to avoid heavy rains, which can sometimes turn trails into torrents. For more information and advice, the Martinique Departmental Hiking Committee can help.

Cycling

Horseback Riding

There are several equestrian clubs on the island offering rides for all levels, through forests or along the beach.

Quad Biking and Buggies

There are a few opportunities for "hikes" by quad or buggy—check locally for options.

Outdoor and Nature Sports

Deep-Sea Fishing

Big-game fishing is well-developed in Martinique’s waters, especially from Le Marin. You can catch swordfish, marlin, tuna, and even sharks.

Golf

The island has one golf course, located in the municipality of Les Trois-Îlets.

Canyoning

There are a few canyoning opportunities in the northern part of the island, particularly near Grand’Rivière.
