Accommodation in Martinique
Overview of the offer
Martinique offers a diverse range of accommodations, from "classic" or all-inclusive hotels to guesthouses, B&Bs, and hotel residences, as well as farm inns, family holiday villages, furnished tourist rentals, and even house or apartment swaps. There’s plenty of choice, though not always in large quantities for certain categories (so booking ahead is useful), and prices aren’t always affordable during peak season, often rising by 20 to 30%. Still, since the island is small, the best option is usually to pick a single base for your stay and opt for weekly rates or "flight + accommodation" packages, which are much more cost-effective. Most of the island’s tourist accommodations are located in the southern part of Martinique.
Hotels and all-inclusive
Whether upscale or standard, all-inclusive, hotel residences, or holiday villages, Martinique’s hotel scene comes in many forms. You’ll find beautiful establishments by the sea or in historic colonial homes, as well as more generic or slightly outdated options. The same goes for the types of stays—from classic accommodation to all-inclusive, including rooms, studios, or apartments with kitchenettes for self-catering. What they all have in common: they’re mostly located in the south, and nightly rates (rarely under 100 €) make weekly packages or bundled deals far more appealing.
Guesthouses
For many visitors, guesthouses are the most suitable accommodation option. They offer more freedom, generally comfortable (though not always charming) and well-equipped settings, including kitchens. Typically, the owners handle check-in and can assist or advise during your stay. However, note that some B&Bs are also labeled as guesthouses.
Martinique’s guesthouses are either independent or, for around 200 of them, certified under Gîtes de France. Most are rented by the week, and booking early is essential during peak season. Expect to pay at least 250 € per week for the lowest-priced options off-season.
Other options
Apartments and villas
You can also find house, apartment, or studio rentals, whether through agencies or private listings. Quality and prices vary widely—expect to pay around 200 €–250 per week for the cheapest options. Additionally, home exchanges between Martinique and mainland France are possible.
Farm inns
Also known as "agritourism," this is a relatively new and gradually expanding option, mainly in the island’s northern region.
Camping
Camping isn’t really a viable accommodation option in Martinique. There’s essentially only one campsite on the island (in Sainte-Anne), which isn’t highly recommended. Wild camping is also prohibited.
Which accommodation to choose?
Guesthouses are generally the best choice, especially for value for money with their weekly rates. For those who prefer a "beachfront hotel," all-inclusive packages are the most appealing option.
