Accommodation in Jamaica
Overview of the Offer
Jamaica has a fairly substantial accommodation capacity, with numerous all-inclusive resort complexes in beach destinations, as well as a range of more "modest" local establishments, guesthouses, and various rentals. In all cases, in the most frequented areas, prices rise significantly during high season, from December to April.
Hotels
High-End and All-Inclusive
A wide selection is available, with all-inclusive packages being the preferred option for beach resorts on the north coast.
Other Hotels and Guesthouses
This is the most economical and interesting solution for independent travellers. Guesthouses are quite numerous on the island, though comfort and service vary greatly depending on the address. It’s possible to negotiate in low season if you stay for several nights. Otherwise, expect around $30 to $35 for a double room for a basic option.
Other Options
Homestays
While occasionally available, this option isn’t widely developed in Jamaica, largely because the island has opted for a more upscale tourism model.
Apartments and Villas
Alongside hotels, beach resorts often also offer a selection of villas, bungalows, or well-equipped, high-quality apartments. Rented by the week, this can be a great opportunity for groups, with the obvious advantage of more freedom and privacy than an all-inclusive resort.
Camping
This isn’t commonly practiced in the country, and given the potential risks, wild camping is strongly discouraged, including in the Blue Mountains.
Which Accommodation to Choose?
For a "relaxation-beach holiday" trip, the all-inclusive option is undoubtedly the most suitable. If you plan to venture away from these areas or travel around, small local hotels and guesthouses will work perfectly well.
