For French citizens
No visa is required for French citizens for stays of less than 3 months; a passport valid for 6 months after the planned return date is sufficient. However, a return or onward ticket (including by land) is generally required.
Other nationalities
The same applies to Swiss citizens, EU nationals, and some other nationalities. Canadians may stay for up to 6 months without a visa, with just a passport valid for 3 months after the planned return date and a return or onward ticket.
