Volcanoes, Andean highlands, Amazon rainforest, Pacific coastline, plus the unique Galapagos archipelago—Ecuador boasts immense natural diversity. Beyond the Galapagos or Amazon Rainforest themselves, several sites, parks, and reserves hold particular interest for visitors:

  • Avenue of Volcanoes: Known by this name, the stunning region stretching from Quito to Riobamba is home to numerous volcanoes, including Cotopaxi, Chimborazo, and Sangay.
  • Cotopaxi National Park: With its active volcano of the same name, this park has become a must-visit for trekking and nature enthusiasts.
  • Machalilla National Park: This coastal park northwest of Guayaquil offers beautiful landscapes, beaches, and various archaeological sites. Hiking is possible here.
  • Sangay National Park: A UNESCO-listed Andean park with volcanoes (including Sangay) and stunning landscapes, it’s a prime hiking destination.
  • Yasuni National Park: A beautiful Amazonian park in Napo province, though threatened by deforestation and oil extraction.
  • Cuyabeno Reserve: A breathtaking network of rivers, lagoons, mangroves, and forests, best explored by boat or on foot. The reserve is home to numerous birds, monkeys, and caimans.
  • Pululahua Reserve: North of Quito, this beautiful nature reserve offers hiking, cycling, and horseback riding.
