Entry Requirements and Visa for Ecuador
FR

People

For French Citizens

For tourist travel, no visa is required for stays of less than 3 months. A passport valid for 6 months after the entry date is sufficient.

Other Nationalities

The same applies to Canadians, Swiss nationals, citizens of the European Union, and a few other nationalities.

Long Stays

For those wishing to stay longer than 3 months, it is possible to request an extension for an additional 90 days after paying a "fee" of $400.

In Case of Violation

Overstaying the 90-day limit without a visa can lead to problems when leaving the country. Anyone may (theoretically) face detention, fines, and deportation.

Vehicles (and Boats)

Personal Vehicles

Few travelers choose to bring their own vehicle to Ecuador. If you do, it’s best to enter the country via the Rumichaca (Colombia) or Huaquillas (Peru) border crossings, where procedures are simpler and faster.

In addition to the usual documents required for formalities, you’ll need local vehicle insurance, which can typically be obtained at the border. The vehicle is permitted to stay for the same duration as its owner. Be careful not to overstay, as the vehicle may be impounded.

Boats

For sailors wishing to visit the Galapagos with their yacht, be aware that maritime access and movement within the marine park are highly regulated. It is essential to research the requirements beforehand, starting with the official Galapagos Park website.
