Like other Latin American countries, particularly Guatemala, which sets the standard, Ecuador has also (to some extent) developed a system of language schools for foreign visitors. These schools, mostly located in the capital and in Cuenca, welcome young people every year—many of them North American—who come to learn Spanish for a few days or weeks at one of the institutions in these cities. Several programs are typically available, making it possible to combine studies, homestays, activities, and exploration of the area and the country.
Although the number of agencies in Europe and Canada offering Ecuador is smaller than for other destinations, it’s still possible to find a few providers specializing in language-study trips to the country.
