Flying to French Guiana
FR

General information

French Guiana has around ten airports and airfields, with Cayenne's Félix Eboué Airport as the main gateway. With 500,000 passengers per year, it is by far the busiest, ahead of Saint-Laurent, and the base for the local airline Air Guyane Express. However, the airport serves very few airlines and flights; the vast majority of traffic is to and from mainland France, effectively turning French Guiana into an aviation dead-end.

Types of flights

Local airlines

There is only one Guianese airline, Air Guyane Express, based in Cayenne and focused on serving the department's five airports plus Suriname, with a fleet of around ten small aircraft.

Charters, scheduled, and low-cost flights

French Guiana only welcomes scheduled flights, much to the frustration of locals who would like more routes or simply more affordable fares (excluding flights to and from mainland France)!

Promotions and special offers

Rather than specific promotions for Cayenne, you’ll find offers on the Air France or Air Caraïbes networks that include the destination.

From France

From mainland France

Direct flights to French Guiana are all from Paris, operated by Air Caraïbes (Orly) and Air France (Orly + Roissy), taking roughly 8h30 to 9h00 depending on the direction. Note that some flights stop in the French West Indies, which can significantly extend the journey. Prices: 550 € to 900 € round trip.

From the provinces (or the rest of Europe), there are no direct flights, and journeys require a connection via Paris by plane or train.

Choosing your flight

Given the limited number of carriers, comparisons and choices are quick. Exploring alternatives via the French West Indies, Brazil, or Suriname will only increase costs. The best option is often to find the right dates.

From the "French West Indies"

Air France (and partner airlines) offers flights to Martinique and Guadeloupe. However, these remain very expensive—around 450 € round trip for a two-hour flight to Fort-de-France, for example.

From elsewhere

Other routes to French Guiana are extremely limited. The only options are Brazil, with flights from Belém for over 400 € round trip (Azul and Surinam Airways) from Cayenne, and Paramaribo in Suriname for over 300 € round trip from Cayenne or Saint-Laurent (Surinam Airways). That’s it!

In short, aside from mainland France, there are very few options—and even fewer at reasonable prices—for flying directly into or out of French Guiana. If you want to travel across the Americas from the department, the best approach is to go through Suriname for the north or Belém for the south, then continue with local airlines. As a last resort, transiting via Paris can sometimes be cheaper for certain destinations.
