Nature and Adventure

Contrary to what one might sometimes imagine, the Netherlands is not just a succession of cities covering the entire territory. Beyond the tulip fields that everyone expects to see in spring, the northern coast and the West Frisian Islands offer beautiful marine and dune landscapes, just as several natural sites in the country (De Groote Peel Park, Oosterschelde, etc.) are renowned for birdwatching. You can even hike and, of course, cycle through the Dutch countryside. That said, it’s true that the Dutch landscapes remain fairly uniform, which doesn’t detract from their charm...

Culture

Like many European countries, the Netherlands offers visitors a rich cultural heritage to discover in its cities and villages. The numerous museums, religious buildings, stunning architecture, and monuments from different eras, along with a distinct local culture, are all highlights that will delight cultural travelers. A single city like Amsterdam is reason enough to visit the country.

Relaxation and Holidays

Aside from the lively atmosphere of a few cities, including Amsterdam, the Netherlands primarily offers a peaceful setting along the North Sea coast.

Independent Travel

The Netherlands is a very easy destination for independent travel, perfect for beginners, and presents no difficulties.

Organized Travel

There are hardly any—or very few—package tours offered by tour operators, but rather a selection of à la carte services.

Gay and Lesbian Travel

In 2001, the Netherlands became the first country in the world to legalize same-sex marriage, and Dutch society is very tolerant and egalitarian regarding everyone’s rights. In Amsterdam and other major cities, "gay-friendly" establishments and events are plentiful.
