Flying to the Netherlands
General Information
While Amsterdam-Schiphol Airport is by far the largest in the Netherlands and ranks among the busiest in Europe and the world with nearly 60 million passengers per year (58,285 in 2015), there are also around twenty other airports, including Eindhoven, Maastricht, Groningen, and Rotterdam, which serve international flights. In some cases, these (as well as several nearby Belgian or German airports) can be a good alternative to Amsterdam for those arriving by plane.

Choosing the Best Option
Given the wide range of options and price points for this destination, it’s best to prioritize direct flights when available. These generally offer the best balance of quality, duration, and price, unlike connections, which can take nearly half a day to reach your destination. After that, compare options by checking the airlines’ websites, including low-cost carriers. Don’t forget that trains or even buses from cities like Paris are also excellent ways to travel to the Netherlands.
