Accommodation in the Netherlands
Overview of the offer
The Netherlands has numerous and varied accommodations, but they tend to fill up very quickly during holiday periods or weekends in places like Amsterdam. This is especially true for the best deals, which therefore need to be booked in advance. Beyond availability, prices can also be an issue—so much so that if you're traveling on a tight budget, it's best to prioritize off-season travel, weekdays over weekends, and staying away from city centers or tourist areas to sleep at a lower cost.
Hotels
Youth Hostels
Whether official or not, youth hostels are plentiful in the country and generally well-equipped, making them a solid accommodation option, especially in cities. Expect around 20 € per night for a dorm bed and 35 €–40 for the cheapest double rooms. On weekends or during holidays, it's best to book in advance, as prices can rise significantly during these times.
Camping
The Netherlands has several hundred campsites. In season, if you're somewhat self-sufficient with transportation, camping can be an economical accommodation solution. As is common in Europe, many sites also offer bungalow or mobile home rentals. As for wild camping, it's prohibited for both tents and campervans unless you have the landowner's permission.
