Health and Safety in Norway
Official Recommendations
In France, both for individuals and professionals, the "travel advice" from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding precautions for each country has legal value. A similar online travel advice system exists in several countries:
Health
No vaccinations are mandatory to enter the country, although it is still advisable to be up to date with your "basic vaccines."
Illnesses and Hygiene
Nothing particular to report.
Local Healthcare Facilities
Local infrastructure is excellent. For healthcare, nationals of countries in the European Economic Area must present their European Health Insurance Card (formerly form E-111), which guarantees the same rights to everyone—otherwise, they will have to pay their medical expenses. Other visitors must rely on their insurance or pay the full cost of care.
Safety
Crime and Delinquency
Norway is a very safe destination, though like anywhere else, it has minor delinquency targeting tourists, particularly pickpocketing. However, with a few basic precautions and common sense, there is no risk.
Climate, Nature, and Wildlife
As in all Nordic countries, nature—especially in the north or in winter—can pose a certain "danger" if not respected. Norway has a harsh climate with occasional sudden weather changes (winds, temperature drops, etc.). It is therefore useful to stay updated on the weather and be minimally equipped, especially when hiking. Also, be careful not to get lost if you stray from marked trails.
As for wildlife, rather than wolves and bears, you are more likely to encounter voracious mosquitoes and other midges in the north between June and July. In another vein, watch out for reindeer on the roadside when driving in Lapland and surrounding areas.
Other
Whether in terms of tourist scams and harassment or socio-political risks, there is nothing more to fear—if not less—than in other European countries.
Foreign Consulates in Norway
If you encounter problems while traveling abroad, your country’s consular services can assist you. It is also worth noting that if you are a national of the European Union and your country is not represented, you can contact any other representation of an EU member state.
France
Consulate General: Drammensveien 69, 0244 Oslo. Tel. +47 23 28 46 00. There are also seven other French honorary consulates in Norway.
