Albania: Climate and Weather
Location Map of Albania
Climate Overview
Although the country is not very large, two distinct climates can be identified depending on whether you are on the coast or inland, particularly in the more mountainous regions.
As is often the case, the coastal area enjoys a pleasant Mediterranean climate year-round, with mild winters and summers that are not too hot thanks to the sea breeze and maritime air—at least if you stay near the coast. However, it does rain there from late autumn to early winter. Inland, the climate is more extreme, with summer temperatures that can sometimes be scorching (though they are milder at higher altitudes) and winters that are more pronounced, with very cold conditions in the highlands.
Best Time to Visit Albania
Like many places in Southern Europe, the shoulder seasons are the most pleasant, from late April to late June and September to October. This avoids the intense summer heat of the inland plains.
