Entry Requirements and Visa for Bulgaria
People
For tourist travel purposes.
For French Citizens
A national identity card or passport is sufficient to enter the country and stay for less than 3 months. Since Bulgaria is not part of the Schengen Area, there are border checks upon arrival, even when coming from a member country of this zone.
Other Nationalities
The same rules apply to French citizens for all visitors from the European Union, Switzerland, Canada, and a few other countries.

Vehicles
If you plan to arrive with your own vehicle, the vehicle registration certificate and the green insurance card are mandatory. While not essential, an international multilingual driving permit (free at the prefecture) may occasionally prove useful during checks.
Note that to drive on Bulgaria's roads and highways (which are toll-free), all vehicles, including foreign ones, must have a vignette. This can be purchased at border crossings and some gas stations.
