Over 95% of the Greek population is Orthodox. The Orthodox Church holds particular (and historical) significance in this deeply religious country, to the extent that the Greek Constitution officially recognizes it as "prevailing" within Greek society, even though freedom of worship is fully guaranteed. Greece is also home to small Catholic minorities (mainly on the islands) and Muslim minorities (primarily in the north) among its other main religious communities.
