Flying to Barbados

General Information

Like many small Caribbean islands, Barbados has only one airport (plus a heliport) near its capital: Grantley Adams International Airport. However, it is one of the busiest, with 2 million passengers per year (2,075,000 in 2014), regularly appearing in the Top 10 of the Caribbean’s most frequented airports. This is partly because Barbados is a well-visited island, benefiting from direct air links with the rest of the Americas and part of Europe, and also serving as a base for LIAT, a well-established airline in the region.

Types of Flights

Local Airlines

Despite several past attempts, Barbados currently has no airline entirely its own. It is only a co-owner, along with the islands of Antigua and Barbuda and Saint Vincent, of LIAT, which, at sixty years old, is one of the region’s oldest airlines. With its dozen aircraft, LIAT serves nearby islands as well as Puerto Rico, covering a total of 17 destinations.
