Languages

English, inherited from the British protectorate, is the official language of Botswana. However, it is not the most widely spoken in the country, as Setswana—a Bantu language—is used by 90% of the population and is considered the national language. Around twenty other indigenous languages, far less common, are also used locally, along with Afrikaans. French, on the other hand, is practically unknown.
