Natural Zones

South Africa has around twenty national parks along with numerous public and especially private reserves, as well as various natural sites of all kinds. Public parks are managed by South African National Parks (SANParks), which handles bookings and provides all necessary information.

The distribution of parks and reserves covers the entire country. You’ll find coastal parks, mountain parks, and those in the country’s arid zones. Some are shared with neighboring countries, like Mapungubwe or the famous Kruger. However, the main reserves, including Kruger, are located in the north/northeast, offering the safaris that have contributed to South Africa’s tourist reputation.
