Population

Over 80% of Grenada's population is of African descent, stemming from slaves brought by the French and English, who also left descendants. Additionally, 13% are of mixed heritage, with a minority arriving from India in the second half of the 19th century, as well as some Carib or Arawak populations whose ancestors were persecuted by European colonisers. Conversely, as is common in the Caribbean, a significant portion of the population has emigrated, primarily to England, New York, or Toronto, to the extent that it is estimated that one-third of those born on the island no longer reside there.
