Independent Travel

Organized and All-Inclusive

The United States is, of course, well represented in travel agency catalogs. You’ll have no trouble finding a wide range of tours, stays, "adventure" packages, and various services, including hotel and vehicle reservations.

However, when it comes to organized travel, the offerings are logically centered first on California, the national parks of the West, Florida, or the Northeast. There’s little to nothing available for the Pacific Northwest or even less for the Midwest and the Great Plains.

All-Inclusive

While it may not be the first destination that comes to mind when looking for "all-inclusive" options, this type of package does exist in the United States, though it’s primarily concentrated in Florida (and Hawaii).

Traveling with a Disability

In addition to a specific law (the "Americans with Disabilities Act") that requires hotels, airports, public places, and transportation to be equipped with accessibility features for people with disabilities, the United States is one of the best-adapted destinations for travelers with disabilities. This applies to accommodations, getting around cities in a wheelchair, and even some natural spaces, as well as (to a lesser extent) for those with visual impairments. Most major car rental companies also offer vehicles adapted for people with reduced mobility, though it’s best to reserve these in advance if interested.
