Climate Overview

Puerto Rico has a humid tropical climate characterized by a rainy season from late April to early December (with a very slight lull in June-July) and a dry season the rest of the year. Average temperatures range between 25 and 30°C year-round, though the rainy period—particularly from August to November—can feel more humid. This is also hurricane season, when Puerto Rico may occasionally be affected.

Note that the island’s mountainous interior, the cordillera, plays a role in its climate, creating variations in temperature, rainfall, and wind over short distances. For this reason, the southern coast is often slightly warmer than the north, while the interior remains cooler than the coast—though still pleasant.

Best Time to Visit Puerto Rico

As with many tropical destinations, it’s best to avoid the rainy and hurricane season. The ideal time to visit is from late December to early April.
