Among the small islands in the region, Saint Kitts and Nevis is one of the few with a certain historical heritage. On Saint Kitts, besides Basseterre, the capital, whose centre still houses several colonial-era buildings, you can also find the Brimstone Hill Fortress, one of the finest British fortresses of the 17th century and among the best-preserved in the Americas. It is also a UNESCO World Heritage site.
On Nevis, the town of Charlestown, with its few old buildings, is dominated by its old fort. On this island, you can also visit the Nevisian Heritage Village, which showcases the different habitats and populations that have lived on the island over the centuries.
