Getting Around Saint Kitts and Nevis

Between the Islands

You can travel between the two islands of the "federation" by plane or, more simply, by ferry.

Ferries

There are only 3 km between the islands of St Kitts and Nevis, and a ferry line connects them. However, since the crossing doesn’t take the shortest route (Basseterre–Charlestown), it still takes 45 minutes. Six small boats operate several times a day (see schedules) at a cost of $8 per crossing. Generally, the last departures are at 6:00 PM. In addition to ferries, several "water-taxi" companies also offer shuttle services.

Plane

Winair and Seaborne Airlines offer a 15-minute flight between the two airports in the archipelago. Expect to pay around $70 for the trip.

There is a shared minibus system that is much cheaper than taxis. You can flag them down anywhere along the road, not just at stops.

Train

While the island has a railway line, it is purely for tourism. The St Kitts Scenic Railway is a small tourist train that once transported sugarcane. It takes 3 to 4 hours to circle the island and offers views of several former plantation sites, among other attractions.
