Flying to Saint Vincent and the Grenadines
Location Map of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines
General Information
For years, the island of Saint Vincent has been trying to build a new airport, Argyle International Airport. However, its opening has been repeatedly delayed, even though the project is now in the "finishing" phase and inauguration may be imminent. In the meantime, the old E.T. Joshua Airport continues to serve as the main hub for Saint Vincent and the rest of the archipelago, though its operations are limited to regional flights with direct services only to nearby islands. Joshua Airport cannot accommodate large aircraft. This limited air coverage is what the new airport aims to address in the long term, with planned flights to and from destinations such as the United States. For now, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines remains one of those destinations with a reduced network, requiring a stopover when arriving from Europe or elsewhere on the continent via nearby islands, primarily Barbados and, to a lesser extent, Antigua or Trinidad and Tobago.
In addition to Saint Vincent, four of the Grenadine islands also have (small) airports with internal flights within the archipelago or to Barbados. These are Bequia, Canouan, Mustique, and Union Island.
Types of Flights
Local Airlines
The archipelago has two small airlines operating with a fleet of small aircraft:
- Mustique Airways: Based in St. Vincent and Mustique, it offers internal flights within the archipelago and to a few other regional islands on a regular or seasonal basis.
- SVG Air: The larger of the two, it operates regular flights within the archipelago and to neighboring islands, as well as occasional charters.

From the Rest of the Caribbean
Even regionally, air service to the archipelago is limited. It is primarily provided by Liat, a well-established airline in the Antilles, and mainly serves Barbados, which acts as a secondary gateway for many visitors traveling to Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. For reference: a one-way flight from Saint Vincent to Barbados costs around $200 (and $350 round-trip).
- Antigua: Saint Vincent (Liat)
- Barbados: Mustique (Mustique Air + SVG Airlines), Saint Vincent (Liat)
- Grenada: Saint Vincent (Liat)
- Saint Lucia: Saint Vincent (Liat)
- Trinidad & Tobago: Saint Vincent (Liat)
From Elsewhere
Apart from flights from Porlamar (Venezuela) to Saint Vincent, there are no direct services outside the region, particularly from Europe or North America. This means a stopover is required, primarily via Antigua or more broadly via Barbados.
