Medical Tourism
What Is Medical Tourism?
Medical tourism is a relatively recent sector where people travel to receive treatment in specialized facilities at lower costs than in their home country. This applies to both minor procedures, such as dental care, and more serious medical issues.
As is often the case, most clients come from Western countries, while the destinations are typically in developing or "lower-cost" nations. It’s estimated that 4 to 5 million people worldwide engage in medical tourism each year, and this number could triple—or even more—in the coming years.
