Electrical Outlets
No matter what equipment you have, it’s worth knowing what types of electrical outlets you’ll encounter while travelling. The only problem is that there’s no truly universal global standard for outlet types, voltage, or frequencies.
Photography, Audio, or Video Equipment
Plan according to your needs, including film (for those not using digital), batteries, discreet protection, and storage. The same goes for audio or video equipment.

Laptops and Tablets
Personal Online Storage
This allows you, among other things, to keep a backup of your address book, copies of your documents, flight tickets, traveller’s cheque numbers, etc. As for USB drives (a few euros for good storage capacity), they’re useful for storing and accessing files from one cybercafé to another (which are usually PC-equipped).
Mobile Phones and Their Applications
Mobile technology is gradually becoming more useful for travel. It’s particularly handy for hiking or skiing in case of serious problems, but also increasingly for any type of holiday, given the range of available apps. However, be mindful of the cost of outgoing—and incoming—calls (the surcharge is never the caller’s responsibility) when abroad.
GPS
GPS (Global Positioning System) has also revolutionised travel, whether for road trips, hiking, or even just exploring a city.
Entertainment
A wide range of options is available, depending on your device—CD, DVD, MP3, radio, "DS", laptop, or tablet—along with batteries, adapters, and storage. This is especially useful for solo travellers or families with children to keep everyone occupied.
