Hi there, We’re heading to Senegal for 4 weeks in February 2025. We’ve booked a 7-day cruise on the Bou el Mogdad departing from Saint-Louis. That’s all we’ve planned so far—we’re also thinking of exploring Casamance after the cruise. Any ideas for things to do while traveling between Dakar and Saint-Louis? We’ll arrive in Dakar 5 days before the cruise sets off. Thanks so much for your tips! Edith

good evening; I see from your profile that you're hikers. The "Grande Côte" is quite wild. Except for very few people, hardly anyone hikes it. In my opinion, it's definitely something to do, though. There are various places to stay along the way. Halfway through, for example, Lompoul. Check it out on Google Maps.

Make sure to save two or three days for Saint-Louis itself—a city worth exploring. And for the Djoudj Reserve, it’s surprising (and a bit smelly!), with a pelican nursery, among other things. The tourist office organizes tours. (I wasn’t driving, so…)

hi there I took this cruise on the Bou just 1 year ago! Amazing! it’s my most beautiful cruise—the staff is lovely, the sailing, the discovery of the riverbanks is fabulous! You’ll have a day in Djoudj National Park ....🙂! Thousands of birds! then you can visit Saint Louis, but there’s already a horse-drawn carriage excursion included in the cruise! After that, you can head to Casamance... or to the Sine Saloum! I’ll be in Ndangane! My peaceful haven! on the way down, you can stop in Somone, then Joal! see the salt wells in Palmarin, the Saloum Islands! ask for Pierre Diouf for the islands! He’ll show you Mar Lodge, his platform in the middle of the bolongs, and a thousand wonders! if you want more info, don’t hesitate to contact me! have a great trip! on the Bou, say hi to Sarko at the bar and to the awesome captain for me! francia

Hello, We’re heading to Senegal as a couple for 3 weeks, from February 1st to 23rd. We’ve booked 3 nights in Dakar, then we’re taking the Bou El Mogdad cruise from the 7th to the 13th. We’re thinking of renting a vehicle to explore the South (Petite Côte, Saloum, and Casamance). I have two questions: - What’s the best way to rent a vehicle? Is a 4x4 preferable? - Could you share the contact details for guide Pierre Diouf? We travel a lot and always try to stay independent, avoiding crowds and mass tourism. Thanks for your insights! Best regards, Didier
