Looking for a local agency in Cairo (Egypt)

Hi everyone,

We’re heading to Cairo in April 2025 and would love to do a 3-day desert excursion. Either the trip to SIWA or the classic "Bahariya Oasis and White Desert" circuit, ideally private or in a small group.

We’d prefer to go through a local agency in Cairo. Does anyone know a reliable one?

Thanks in advance!

Good evening,

We went to the Bahariya Oasis back in 2003. We booked the "Oasis Panorama Hotel" ourselves and arranged the excursions from there. I just checked their website, and they still offer excursions. We stayed for 4 days, and at the time, the excursions and food were great.

Best regards,

Catherine

Hi,

I’m going to Cairo next March and used the French-speaking agency El Mallah. Recommended by *Le Routard*. Very responsive. Check if they fit your budget.

Hi, For 3 days, don’t go to Siwa—it’s between 7 to 10 hours from Cairo. Focus on the rest so you can still have a bit of time. From Cairo, head to the Al Bahariya Oasis, then the Black Desert, and about 100 km further south, the White Desert. If you’re heading back to Cairo and have time, visit Wadi Al-Hitan (Whale Valley) near Lake Moeris. I wouldn’t do this with a group—you’ll be in charge of your own plans. Thoutmosis

hi, we’d like to spend 2 nights in the desert with our grandkids (9 and 10 years old). How did you get to the hotel, please? I’ve tried asking on other forums and apparently it’s impossible? The hotel looks amazing!!!

Hello everyone, If you really want to see the White Desert and the Bahariya Oasis near the Fayoum, then skip the Siwa Oasis (not knowing how many days you have in Egypt, and how many dedicated to oases), as the travel time from Cairo to Siwa is about 10 hours. And you can do it privately, which is always more desirable, since we’re not often on the same wavelength as other people. For the rest, let’s discuss in private. Thoutmosis

Hi there,

I’d recommend checking the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website to see if the area you’re considering is safe or if any precautions are needed! Olivier

Hi newgaby, If you still decide to go to Siwa, don’t go beyond the oasis area, and don’t venture toward the Libyan border—even with your driver. That zone has been off-limits since the instability in Libya, the border is closed, and there’s a risk of being shot on sight, just like a few years after the revolution when a tourist convoy was targeted by Egyptian patrols, leaving several dead and injured. So don’t go there even if your driver says it’s okay—just refuse. Thoutmosis
