Hi there, We’re planning a family stay of 4 days in Santa Susanna on the Costa Dorada in mid-April. We’ve found accommodation within our budget and close to the sea. We’ll definitely visit Barcelona for at least one day. Could you recommend other interesting towns or villages to visit near Santa Susanna? If there are any, that is? Because I might be wrong, but after doing some research, it seems like this town and its immediate surroundings are just beach resorts—maybe a bit too concrete-heavy? It’s fine in the summer, but in April, we might get bored quickly. We’ve even considered changing locations if necessary to get closer to Barcelona since we booked with free cancellation. What do you think? Any advice is welcome. Thanks.

I don’t know Girona/Gerona, but I regret it because it sounds really nice.

Otherwise, the countryside in the Catalan hinterland in spring (the explosion of vegetation) must be really nice too.

Hi and thanks Rhume, I’ve also spotted Girona—I plan to go there, as you mentioned, the Catalan countryside in spring really appeals to me. Nature is beautiful in spring.

Hi there!

Around Santa Susanna, there’s the famous town of Lloret de Mar, first known for its incredible beaches and its very lively nightlife. But that’s not all! Treat yourself to a nice walk up to Sant Joan Castle, which you can reach via an easy-access trail. Once at the top, you’ll be amazed by the sea view while climbing this tower that’s over a thousand years old!

Then, since Girona isn’t too far away, I’d recommend making a detour there. The monastery, the stunning cathedral, and the entire old quarter...

For the rest of Catalonia, I found quite a few tips in the Bonjourbarcelone.fr blog article, "Catalonia, places of interest," which is easy to find online. The region has so many treasures that you’ll see it’s really hard to decide where to go! So, get ready to come back already! 😊
