Hi everyone, My partner and I are planning a trip to Brazil in October for 15 to 20 days. I spent some time in Brazil years ago while collaborating with the University of Lavras (MG). Now, I’d love to introduce my partner to the country. My initial plan is Rio (4 days), Bahia—which I’ve never visited—(4 days), Belo Horizonte to catch up with old friends and explore the surrounding areas (Tiradentes and Ouro Preto), then... and back. I’m really counting on your advice to help shape this trip. We’re not backpackers anymore! Thanks in advance. Best regards, Serge Rambal - Montpellier

Hi there, Salvador is worth the detour. I added two nights in Morro de São Paulo, to the south. There are other beach options. I really liked Tiradentes, where I stayed—and ate well—and its neighbor São João Del Rei. Outside of Minas Gerais, you’ll need to take a plane. So each time, that’s half a day of travel. Your itinerary already takes about twenty days (Belo Horizonte + Ouro Preto + Tiradentes + transportation). It’s tough to add another stop. Between Tiradentes and Rio (by bus), you could maybe make a stop in Petrópolis.

Hi, Do you know how long the bus ride is between Rio (or Petrópolis) and Tiradentes? Same question between Tiradentes and Ouro Preto or Belo Horizonte. Do you know how often the buses run? Alod

Hey Serge; There’s quite a bit to see and discover in Bahia: - Salvador, Brazil’s first capital since 1549 - Reconcavo Baiano, the colonial heartland of Brazil - Chapada Diamantina National Park (also known as the Grand Canyon of Brazil) - the islands of Boipeba and Morro de São Paulo - the Litoral Norte with its many aphrodisiac beaches - etc. Always happy to share more specific info 😉 Tropical greetings from Salvador, Ivan Bahia
