Cotisse Tana-Majunga trip, getting off at Antanambaza

Hi, I’m taking the Cotisse bus soon to go to Antsohihy, so the route is Tana-Majunga with a stop at Antanambaza. How long does it take to get to Antanambaza? Should I leave at 6:30 PM or 7:00 AM? Considering I’ll probably need to find a hotel while waiting for a *taxi be* to Antsohihy, I’d rather not arrive in the middle of the night. And since I’m asking—does anyone have a hotel recommendation in Antanambaza? Also, can you find a seat on a *taxi be* mid-route?

Thanks! !

hi as I’ve said before, I never travel at night in Madagascar—even less so in a bush taxi. Where’s Antanambaza? (I know one on the northeast coast, but not between Tana and Antsohihy)

True, we’ve talked about it—no night travel, so that settles it. Otherwise, Antanambaza should be near Ambodromamy; geographically it’s the junction, but maybe the buses don’t stop there? So, any info on hotels in Ambodromamy? Have a good evening! !

At Ambodromamy, I usually stop on the RN6 at the exit of the Kamoro Hotel—it's clean, reasonably priced, with a pool and even dining options.

For bush taxis, you’ll need to check before leaving Tana for departure times and seat availability to get to Ansohihy. Or, when you arrive at Ambodromamy, ask around at the bush taxi stands. (To get around Ambodromamy, there are plenty of tuk-tuks—no problem!)

Hi there, It's a really good choice. Cotisse is one of the best cooperatives for public transportation in Madagascar. Plus, it offers two different tiers: lite and premium. The journey takes about 8 hours and 30 minutes. If I'm not mistaken, there's the Kamoro Hotel nearby. It can be quite tricky to contact hotels in more remote areas. It's best to reach out to a local expert provider like MadaAssist or other trusted agencies that can help you book the hotel.

Hi! For several years now (at least 10), I’ve been contacting hotels with my Gasy SIM card (ex-Telma) that I put in my dual-SIM phone. No problem at all getting in touch or booking. I’ve never used an intermediary in Madagascar since I started going there in 1991.

Cotisse is a good company, but there’s better—like VIP Première Classe—for the same price. They use comfy minibuses with a max of 8/10 seats.

Hôtel Kamoro, just outside Ambodromamy, is easy to contact—I’ve stayed there three times.

As for Diego, I always go to Hôtel KIKOO Annexe!!! I book directly every time, no intermediary.

thanks for the info! Cotisse has 3 tiers: premium VIP and lite. Since I’m booking kinda late and don’t wanna travel at night, I’ll go premium—too bad ‘cause I’m getting off mid-route... Like Jipi, I’ve got a dual-SIM phone. For upscale hotels like the Kamoro, no prob—they’ve got a website. For small bush hotels, I’ll just ask the drivers anyway. Worst case, I’ve got a tent. I’ll check with the fokontany...

hey everyone, just a quick review: I took Cotisse VIP and it was honestly pathetic

the driver was really unfriendly and not helpful at all—I made the mistake of asking for Wi-Fi and got snapped at. He didn’t know the hotels... I think for him, VIP stands for *Vehicle for Inmates in Prison*. He acted more like a prison guard than a considerate driver. The vehicle was also pretty run-down. The only upside is that there are only 9 passengers, but is it really worth paying double?

Hotel Kamoro is nice but a bit out of the way. Worth noting that for the ridiculous price of 3000 ARS, you get nearly a liter of excellent coffee;

I also tried the Kamoro Bridge Hotel—more central, a bit cheaper, and more convenient if you’re hitting up the local eateries. In both hotels, the staff was super friendly

hi You’re totally right, Cotisse is really far from great. I know a really good company that only does Tana-Majunga (or the reverse): it’s VIP Première Classe (on the corniche in Majunga, heading toward the tourist village—it’s on Google Maps). But the best right now is SOATRANS!! Several Malagasy friends confirmed it—I’ve never taken it myself. The advantage of Kamoro Hotel is its nice pool—after a day in the car, it’s awesome—but it’s true that it’s out of the way. Still, there are plenty of tuk-tuks in Ambodromamy.

Hi there, Thanks for the first-hand confirmation about Cotisse. For our part, we’d heard that Cotisse was really messing up when we were in Madagascar in 2023. We switched to Soatrans and it was great. Even now, that’s what we recommend, and that’s what family in Madagascar uses.

Who knows how long that’ll last...
