I’d love to get some tips for DIY excursions during our cruise. The scheduled stops are Marseille, Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca, Palermo, Rome, and Savona. Thanks in advance!

Hello, I’m taking the same route during the holiday season at the end of the year—we could pick up this discussion when I get back! I already know all these ports of call, but I’ll refresh my experiences 😏 Best regards, Hervé 😎

hi, For Barcelona, there’s a city bus in the morning—I think it costs 3 or 4 € for the whole day. In Palma, you’ll need to walk for about 20 minutes, always heading downhill toward a big supermarket and even farther to reach the city center. In Palermo, you arrive right in the city. There are lots of taxis, but you can easily do it on foot and go see the stunning cathedral—it’s magnificent. In Savona, you can walk out, cross to the other side, and you’ll find a big supermarket. yolande

Hi there, In Barcelona, COSTA has its own terminal. There are city buses right outside (cheaper than COSTA) and taxis: around 20 € to get to the Sagrada Familia. Watch out for pickpockets and the "stain on your clothes" scam—someone will come to help you remove the stain, and in no time, they’ll steal your papers, even if they’re hidden under your jacket. We fell victim to this in Dec 2023.

In Savona, when you exit the port, head right and follow the path marked on the ground—you’ll be near the aquarium in 10/15 minutes. In April 2024, there was a little tourist train that offered a city tour for 10 € per person.

In Palermo, we took a taxi for 5 hours that dropped us off right at the various monuments, and we even went to Monreale. Cost: 50 € per person in a minibus for 8 people. If you’re interested, I can give you the taxi driver’s details.

Rome—the port is in Civitavecchia, which is quite far away.

Hope you have a great cruise, and I’m glad the site is accessible again! Mum49
