Hi there

Is the water from the cabin sinks drinkable?

hi there,

yes, absolutely— I saw the water refills at the docks, and the pipes were labeled "drinking water".

Yes, but I think the shipments are for the water we drink from the fountains on board.

The water from the sinks, showers, etc. must be desalinated seawater that’s minimally treated, so theoretically it’s not too bad for brushing your teeth, but don’t overdo it.

That’s exactly it, Olivier!

The water in the cabins is desalinated seawater, which is fine for brushing your teeth, but (just my opinion) disgusting to drink...

While it’s not "drinkable" by legal standards—since the required chemical and bacteriological tests aren’t all done in real-time onboard (though quality control is handled on land)—it’s not "toxic" in any way. Drinking it in quantity (yuck... 🤪) won’t make anyone sick (though I’d still be cautious with babies and young kids).

(humorous note: still, avoid drinking it if it’s "brown," which happens occasionally, especially on older ships... but Costa handles it, and things get back to normal quickly... 😉 )

Hi everyone, I’m going on a cruise in early November on the Costa Smeralda, and I’ve got the "bad" habit of waking up around 4/5 AM and needing my coffee. I’m 77 years old, and I’m not about to change now. So, can I make instant coffee with the hot water from the cabin sink, even if I use a water purifier? Thanks for your replies!

The hot water from the tap is a breeding ground for germs. Boiled + Air Wick or equivalent, and even then...
