Bonjour, j' aimerais connaitre la distance en 4X4 de Puerto viejo ( hotel Cariblue ) au volcan Paos. Quoi faire a Paos, cela vaut-il vraiment la peine d'y aller, nous allons aussi à Arénal.

La distance importe peu au Costa Rica, il faut environ 4 à 5h. Le parc du volcan Poas est différent de la région d'Arenal, c'est une grande caldeira avec un lac acide au fond, vous pouvez faire un belle balade dans le parc pour observer la faune et flore d'altitude on est à 2700 m d'altitude, il y fait frais. Attention le parc ferme à 3h30, donc il faut prévoir de dormir dans les environs et de faire ce parc très tôt le matin pour avoir une chance de le voir dégagé, ça peut être une étape en allant vers Arenal. Le Guide du Petit Futé précise que le parc n'ouvre qu'à 9h30, c'est une grossière erreur (parmi tant d'autres) , il ouvre bien à 8h du matin.

Ton itinéraire semble bien et semble correspondre au niveau distance et temps. Toutefois si tu es en mesure de modifier ton itinéraire pour repartir de San José dû devrait économiser environ 400 à 500$ par tête.( plus de $$ pour les activité) J'ai moi-même vérifié les prix et un transport Liberia-Montréal est plus cher que San José-Montréal.
En regardant rapidement ton itinéraire je pense que tu pourrais inverser ricon de la Vieja et Montéverde en terminant par lui tu pourrais te rendre facilement à San José pour le retour.
Les billets d'avion sont déjà payés. $740.00 aller retour, ( arrivée San josé ) ( retour Libéria ) avec un escale 1heure et demi a Miami. Je trouvais ce prix fort compétitif c'est pourquoi on revient par Libéria...
Bonjour, je me permets juste une remarque sur le transit à Miami. Venant de France, on a mis presque 3 heures à passer l'immigration, récupérer nos bagages de soute, passer la police, remettre les bagages. Et au retour à Dallas, 2 heures (c'est l'immigration le plus long) mais sans avoir à récupérer les bagages : ils étaient marqués ITI pour suivre directement de san José à Paris.
En même temps, au retour, si on rate l'avion, c'est moins grave que perdre une journée au départ.
Sinon, Tortuguero, très bien : Daryl Loth de la Casa Marbelle avait organisé le tour "tortue" de nuit : fabuleux, elles étaient sur la plage !!!
Poas : très beau, frais mais très ensoleillé le matin (avant 10h pour les nuages). Hotel Altura super sympa
Arenal : majestueux. Nous étions à l'observatory lodge, avec balade de 2h/2h30 incluse dans le parc avec guide. Pour les chambres sur place, les standard dans le bâtiment principal sont plus spacieuse que les smithsionian, et moins chères, plus éoignées de la piscine...
Si vous allez aux cascade thermales du Tabacon, ne pas prendre le repas du soir sur place : buffet de piètre qualité. Par contre le resto Observatory Lodge est très bien, un peu plus cher que le reste du Costa Rica mais nous étions 10 et Apéritif entrée plat dessert vin café pour 30US$ par personne, rien à redire.
Sinon, la côte Caraibes très sympa, ambiance cool.
Et les autres endroits, nous n'avons pas fait : on est allé à Canas pour une balade à cheval, puis Manuel Antonio et Paya Ballena.
Tu me stresses un peu pour le transit à Miami... Tu n'es pas le premier à me dire cela !! L'avion doit quand même nous attendre??? Nous serons aussi a l'.observatory Lodge à Arénal et merci pour les renseignements sur le resto, c'est vraimemt abordable.
par contre, sache qu'avec American Airlines, nous avions réservé en janvier un Paris san José qui passait par Dallas, avec escale d'une heure, c'était le plus court que ma femme (ma blonde si je ne me trompe, bien que brune) avait trouvé, avec les enfants, les transits c'est un peu gonflant.
Après celà, elle a vu sur plusieurs forums les délais transit USA, et elle a vraiment stressé, c'est pour celà qu'on a pris un jour de plus à l'arrivée à Alajuela.
En avril, j'ai appelé AA pour rassurer ma femme, expliquant que nous avions des craintes pour ce délai très court, ce à quoi AA m'a répondu que le vol avait été modifié avec départ plus tôt, escale à Miami de 5h, et que le Paris dallas n'existait plus (même siège réservé que sur le précédent, je suppose qu'ils ont eu des soucis avec 1h de battement). Du coup, ma femme n'a plus stressé, enfin pour ça !!!
à voir avec quelle compagnie tu pars, et si c'est la même pour les deux vols ? Et le programme ITI de suivi de bagage existe-t'il ? Cela dit, avec immigration, les bagages ont le temps d'arriver...
sinon, pour Cahuita Poas, le temps peut-être très différent si tu passes par Guapiles puis SanJosé / Hérédia, ou par Guapilès puis Sarapiqui au nord : le route san Miguel Poas est longue car refaite en partie sable.

2h15, ça devrait le faire, mais je conseille de ne pas trainer en sortant de l'avion ni dans les couloirs de Miami avant l'immigration : si plusieurs vols arrivent en même temps, ça peut être long (nous avec 5h on y était allé relax...)

Oui, je l'ai vu. Il est très bien et m’a permis de trouver plusieurs réponses à mes questions. Pour le Jeep par contre je n'ai pas pris cette solution. J'ai fait mon paresseux ce voyage-ci. J'ai loué un chauffeur et un guide francophone tout au long du trajet. Ça ne me tentait vraiment pas de conduire. (Je sais, je suis paresseux et les puristes n'aimerons pas! mais c'est mon voyage nhaaa ! ). J’ai réalisé que le cout n’était pas nécessairement astronomique au Costa Rica et que cela valait même la peine.
C'est encore mieux que de louer un jeep !! Tu vas voir des paysages que personne ne voit et des lieux vraiment sauvages! Vraiment une bonne idée, si j'avais su que cela était possible, je crois que j'aurais pris fait comme toi, la location d'un jeep n'est quand même pas donné, 700.00 pour les deux semaines. Ton guide toi c'était bien cher, est-ce que tu dois le nourrir et payer son hotel ??
Si je me souviens bien le cout du Guide est d'environ 300 ou 400 $/jours (nous divisons a 4 , ce qui reviens a moins de 100 $ par jour) en fais, dans c prix ils sont deux, un chauffeur ET un guide. Le Jeep te revient quand même bien meilleur marché et ça coute cher quand on paie d'une seule poche!
L'avantage est effectivement que l'on peu ce concentrer sur le paysage, il règle les petits problèmes et en plus nous conseil sur les sites ou endroit ou visiter.
C'est pas donné en effet !! Mais c'est quand même un idée géniale quand on a les moyens et qu'on est 4. Bon, il ne reste qu'à attendre des passer les fêtes puis le long mois de janvier pour toi et moi le mois de février !! On se reparlera surement d'ici là!

After that, we’re planning to visit Gorongosa National Park before flying back to France from Beira. We’re planning a 4x4 trip from Belgium to Central Asia, passing through Georgia, Russia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan.
For these countries, our national insurance obviously doesn’t cover the vehicle, so we’ll need to get local insurance.
Will it be a problem if the vehicle is registered under person A and the national insurance is under person B? Both A and B will be in the vehicle, and both will be listed as drivers on the insurance.
When we get the local insurance, if we again list A and B as drivers, does the order matter? Could we get stuck at the border for this reason?

Were they All Terrain tires or more "standard" ones like all-season tires, for example?

From your experience, is it necessary or even essential to book campsites in advance, or do you always manage to find a spot to pitch your tent?
We’ll also have the option to sleep in the car without pitching the tent.

We’ll alternate between bivouacking and small hotels/riads depending on the stops.

Our goal:
Atlas Mountains + desert + dunes + plateaus + valleys + a bit of coastline.
We’ll cover about 1,700 km in total.
We’re planning:
Bivouacking in the Chegaga/Iriki area
Flexible for the rest (booking the day before or same day)
Sand gear: traction plates, compressor, tow strap, roof rack
Questions:
Is the Zagora → Chegaga → Iriki → Foum Zguid crossing in July doable on our own (single vehicle, no guide)?
Are there any truly technical or risky sections between Chegaga and Iriki?
Does the overall itinerary seem manageable in 13 days without rushing?
Any suggestions for great bivouac spots or particularly interesting stops along this route?
The points on the route are provisional overnight stops. Some spots will include two nights in the same area.
We’re used to off-road driving, but not yet in the Moroccan desert.

Day 4: Kayaking with the seals + the living dunes – overnight in Swakopmund
Day 5: Moon Landscape, Henties Bay + Cape Cross – overnight at White Lady Lodge in Brandberg
Does this itinerary seem realistic to you? Is Cape Cross really worth the trip? If I had to choose between Cape Cross and kayaking with the seals, which would you recommend?

I’d love to visit Gonarezhou National Park—I see there are two sectors: the Mwenezi Region in the south and the area around the Runde River in the north. Should I cover both sectors or just focus on the northern region?
For the parks along the Zambezi River, is it better to visit Mana Pools on the Zimbabwe side or Lower Zambezi on the Zambia side?

I’m leaving in November for about a month with the goal of reaching Senegal via Mauritania. I’d love to share this trip with someone who wants to discover Mauritania and a bit of Senegal... and also experience life on board a 4x4 in the desert or bush, sometimes sleeping in the vehicle or in hostels/small hotels for comfort. I’m looking for a rental company (or several) that offers single-cab 4x4 pick-ups with a fitted camper cell for two people. I’m specifically after a vehicle with an indoor shower for extra comfort ;)

While browsing the forum, I came across the Chilean rental company Holiday Rent. But do you have any recommendations for Argentine rentals?
Because, if I can’t return the vehicle in the same city as pickup, I’d prefer—and it’d likely be cheaper—to at least return it in the same country.

My trip to South Africa is starting to take shape.
However, I'm struggling to figure out the route through Kruger Park. I can't seem to find the information I need about getting around.
Coming from the south, I plan to arrive on Day 1 in the early afternoon at Malelane or Crocodile Bridge.
Do some shopping in Malelane (or Crocodile Bridge main area) and stay overnight outside the park.
Leave on Day 2 at 5 AM for the park. Explore the southern part of the park.
Stay overnight around Skukuza or Lower Sabie. (We don’t want to stay in one of the park’s big camps. We’re looking for a lodge around 200 €.
Head out on Day 3 for a self-drive safari, maybe as far as Orpen.
We’d like to stay in a private reserve on nights 4 and 5.
We’re not sure which one or how to get into a private reserve. Do we need to exit Kruger Park?
On Day 5, we’d like to leave to visit Blyde Canyon (on Day 6).

We’ll spend 2 nights in Khwai, then 2 or maybe 3 nights in the Moremi area (Third Bridge/Xakanaxa/Mboma) before heading back to Maun to wrap up our journey.
