J'organise ma lune de miel en Egypte et aimerais avoir quelques informations pour planifier ce beau voyage.
Nous prévoyons de partir 2 semaines. Voici notre programme:

1/ Nous envisageons de louer une voiture (conscient de la conduite en Egypte, nous sommes expatriés en Arabie Saoudite et nous avons l'habitude 🙂 ). Avez-vous des bons plans pour des locations de voiture?
2/ Afin de définir la durée de séjour dans chaque villes, pouvez-vous me donner la durée approximative de visite pour les sites suivants (temps de visite sans précipitation, nous souhaitons prendre notre temps malgré je pense un planning assez ambitieux!):

Le temps des visites : je vous donne 1 idée mais c’est tres personnel et il faut aussi compter avec l’arrivée sur place .
2 ex : Abu Simbel 2 h sur place , 4 beures par trajet ou 1 h d’avion...
Philae : 2 petites h sur place mais bateau + taxi , 2X 1 h 30 .
Les temples à Luxor : de 1 a 3 heures chacun mais la Vallee des rois , 3 a 4 heures sans Seti I .

Non, non : la conduite saoudienne et la conduite égyptienne, ça n'a juste RIEN à voir. La conduite en Egypte c'est le niveau 100 crans au-dessus et rien qu'une ville comme Le Caire ne peut, selon moi, s'appréhender qu'après plusieurs années de vie sur place : je ne connais aucun touriste qui ait un jour loué une voiture là-bas et qui s'y risquerait. Préférez les taxis ou voitures privées. Après, c'est à vous de voir, évidemment, mais, outre la conduite de gros malade, vous risquez de passer trop de temps dans les bouchons sans savoir où aller qui plus est. Les routes en Arabie-Saoudite et en Egypte, ça n'a vraiment pas grand chose à voir, encore une fois.

- Le plateau de Gizeh, le plateau de Saqqarah, le plateau de Dahshour et le musée à ciel ouvert de Memphis, si on ajoute la visite d'une pyramide de Gizeh au choix (en tout cas Mykérinos et Khéops sont visitables, Khéphren je ne sais vraiment pas), ça vous prendra la journée. Après pour la visite des pyramides, c'est pas génial génial : j'ai fait Khéops et 15€ pour grimper un couloir étroit, une galerie et atterrir dans une chambre entièrement vide, c'est vraiment cher pour ce que c'est. Il n'y a rien à voir ou presque dans une pyramide, c'est juste histoire de dire : "je l'ai fait". Au moins sur le site de Dahshour vous pourrez rentrer dans la pyramide rouge, c'est inclus dans le tarif de base. Après, c'est vous qui voyez mais si vraiment ça vous tient à cœur alors faites Khéops, la plus grande.
- Le musée égyptien du Caire, il faut selon moi 3h pour bien en profiter.
- Edfou, Philae, Karnak, Temple de Louxor, Temple d'Hatchepsout : 2h pour chaque, environ.
- Vallée des Rois : ça dépend si vous visitez la tombe de Seti Ier ou pas (50€ l'entrée dans celle-ci). Mais comptez 1h par tombe incluse dans le ticket de base soit 3h.
- Vallée des Reines : 2h et un peu plus si vous visitez la tombe de Nefertari.
- Medinet Habou : ça se fait en 1h - 1h30 je dirais.
- Ramesseum : pas fait, je l'ai vu de l'extérieur seulement, mais c'est assez rapide.
Si vous êtes à Louxor, n'hésitez pas à aller voir les vallées des nobles et des artisans : ça vaut le détour.

Moi non, mais mon père oui et il me confirmait que c'était quasi du gâteau par rapport à ce qu'il a vu en Egypte. Et pourtant on connait déjà très bien la circulation en Algérie vu qu'on l'a parcourue plusieurs fois avec notre propre voiture ou avec des voitures de location et même là-bas, c'est moins pire qu'en Egypte (alors que c'est déjà balèze avec les calèches sur une autoroute pleine de trous et des deux voies qui se changent en 5 voies avec des bus qui font des 1/2 tours sur le terre-plein central et l'absence totale de feux exceptés dans certaines villes).
Ma foi, bon courage pour la conduite en Egypte : j'attendrai votre retour avec impatience.
Vous pensez aller du Caire à Abu Simbel ?

Tant qu’à faire et sur la lancée, n’oubliez pas d’aller a Abydos , un temple magnifique ...
Je ne m'inquiète pas , rassurez - vous : cependant, il y a de nombreux check points sur votre route , notamment du Caire a Denderah et au Sud d’ Assouan , vers Abu Simbel .
Quelles infos avez- vous là dessus ? Escorte de la police prévue , avec les frais que ça nécessite ?
Ou bien , expat en Arabie Saoudite , vous seriez dispensés de ces formalites ???

My plan is roughly to do a road trip loop from Rabat back to Rabat, passing through Asilah, Tangier, Tétouan, Chefchaouen, Akchour, Fès, Meknès, and Volubilis.
That’s a lot of cities.
Probably a bit too many for our taste—we usually prefer more isolated spots...

Then, when I mentioned I wanted to stay for two or three weeks—maybe even a month—explaining that my trip wouldn’t be strictly touristy but more of a pilgrimage to the places of my childhood, and that it would likely be a very emotional journey, I expected a positive and warm reaction to my approach. Instead, I suddenly stopped getting replies from the three or four people I’d contacted. So now I’m wondering about the reception former Pieds-Noirs can expect...

- Does it need to cover the entire duration of the trip?
- Is this document mandatory for a hotel to rent a room?
- Is it checked during inspections?
- Is a hotel booking (e.g., via Booking.com) sufficient for the visa?
- If so, does it need to be paid in advance?
I plan to visit several cities and do one or more treks with a guide or agency.

I’d like to do a route that’s a bit different from my first stay, which was more focused on cities and culture (Tunis, Sousse, Kairouan, El Jem).
I’ll be getting around by public transport.
I’d like to head south toward Tozeur, and I saw that you can take a *louage* from Monastir to Sbeitla (2h30). I imagine it’s not too complicated to get to Tozeur from there afterward? The issue is the return trip to Monastir and safety in Sbeitla.
If this route seems too complicated, I might opt for Djerba instead, which looks simpler.

Even though I come to Morocco four times a year, it’s been a long time since I’ve made the trip by car. I need to refresh my knowledge! I’ll be traveling in early October. I have a car that’s about 20 years old. The plan is to cross via Algeciras/Ceuta.

Day 4-5-6: Chefchaouen and a day hike in the Rif Mountains
Day 6-7: Discover the city of Fes (I’ve heard so many great things!!)
Day 8: Stop in Meknes and possibly visit the historic site of Volubilis
Day 9-10: Rabat (I’ve heard mixed things... some good, some bad)
After that, I have the choice of heading back to Tangier for my return flight... or going down to Agadir (also a possible return flight) and extending my trip by 5 days :)
From what I can tell, everything is well connected by bus (CTM) or train (ONCF).
Another question: Is the vibe in Moroccan youth hostels for meeting people the same as what you’d find in Western Europe?

(though there are fraudulent sites out there). On the official site, they ask for legitimate info
(name, nationality, etc.). What made me go "hmm" was the request for both an email address
AND a password (with confirmation). Is this normal?

A lot of people find it important to stick to their budget when traveling—not to skimp, but to visit as many places as possible since traveling is their hobby.
In this post, I want to share some tips for those coming to Morocco who want their trip to be budget-friendly.
1. Prebook everything: hotels or riads, car rentals, or tours. If you book these in advance, it’ll make your life easier. You won’t have to deal with hagglers or people trying to overcharge you for services that are available online for free. Use platforms like Booking, Expedia, carsrental.ma, Airbnb, and other booking services to get this done properly.
2. Exchange your money to Moroccan dirhams as soon as you land. 1 € is always a little over 10 dirhams, but many people get charged as if it were exactly 10 dirhams per euro.
3. When visiting an old site or the old medina, avoid talking to vendors and shop owners—they’re really good at getting your attention and making you overpay for things.
4. Ask your tour guide to buy things for you. Yes, they do get a commission, but you’ll probably pay way more if you buy something yourself that they can get cheaply.
5. Walk everywhere. You don’t need a taxi for every little trip. Pick a good location and walk—most Moroccan cities are safe during normal hours.
6. Buy your food, drinks, etc., from supermarkets at normal prices. They can’t overcharge you since they scan every product.

I’m planning my next trip outside Europe for next year, but unfortunately, I don’t have a choice with the dates—it’s late June to early July. Last year, I went to Japan for three weeks, and it was constantly 36-37°C with over 90% humidity. It wasn’t easy, but it wasn’t impossible either.
For Egypt, I know it’s a period to avoid if possible, but I’m thinking that by the sea, it might be manageable. Otherwise, I’ll consider another destination.
Day 1: Arrival in Hurghada in the evening
Day 2, 3, 4: Hurghada
Day 5: Hurghada, then drive to Luxor in the early afternoon
Day 6: Luxor
Day 7: Luxor, then drive back to Hurghada in the late afternoon
Day 8, 9, 10, 11: Hurghada
Day 12: Return flight
For the Hurghada trip, either rent a car or—easier—a private car/van.
Is it worth adding an extra day in Luxor?
During the stay, we’re planning activities like camel rides, quad biking, jeep tours, snorkeling, and jet skiing.
