Hi there,

My partner and I are heading to Nepal for 15 days in March—she’s a schoolteacher. We’ll be trekking to Everest Base Camp and then doing the loop via the Gokyo Lakes.

We’d love to set up a fundraiser to donate to a school in Namche, along with visiting the school. It’s something that really matters to us. But it’s been tough to get in touch with a school—any ideas on how to go about this? Thanks!

Following up on your other post about the Everest/Gokyo trek...

If you go with a trekking guide or agency, you can easily ask them to help with this. That said, the Khumbu region—Namche or Khumjung—is probably the wealthiest and least needy area in Nepal. I’m not convinced setting up a fundraiser for local schools would be all that useful.

If you were heading to a more remote and poorer area (like Rolwaling, or even the Solu region to a lesser extent), I’d say go for it... But in Namche, families are relatively well off.
