Voici l'itinéraire que nous avons prévu pour cet été, après avoir épluché guides, le forum (dont les précédentes réponses qui m'avaient été apportées à ma tentative avortée d'aller dans ce coin pour l'été 2015... nous nous y étions pris trop tard et nous avions dû nous rabattre sur la Ligurie, qui a été aussi un super voyage) et sites Internet en tous genre.
Avez-vous des conseils (notamment sur les endroits à visiter qui nous auraient échappés ou sur la durée des étapes) ?
Pour info, nous sommes 2 adultes et 2 enfants (16 mois et 30 mois) et nous voyagerons en août 2016 avec notre propre voiture
JOUR 1 : arrivée à Biarritz et hôtel à Biarritz
JOUR 2 : hébergement à Getaria et visite de Saint Jean de Luz (sur le trajet Biarritz --> Getaria). Le soir, un peu de plage à Getaria et dîner à Getaria.
JOUR 3 : hébergement à Getaria et visite de Fontarrabie/Hondarribia.Le soir, un peu de plage à Getaria et dîner à Getaria.
JOUR 4 : hébergement à Getaria et visite de San Sebastian/Donotia. Le soir, un peu de plage à Getaria et dîner à Getaria.
JOUR 5 : hébergement à Murguia (à 20 min de Vitoria Gasteiz) et visite de Tolosa, avec le musée de la marionnettes (TOPIC) puis de Vitoria Gasteiz sur le trajet Getaria --> Murguia. Le soir, diner à l'hôtel (on a loué un studio avec Kitchtnette)
JOUR 6 : hébergement à Murguia et visite de Bilbao (Guggenheim et vieille ville). Le soir, diner à l'hôtel. J'hésitais à passer par Guernica ou Geitxco mais je ne suis pas vraiment convaincue de l'utilité du crochet ? 😮😮
JOUR 7 : hébergement à Santillana del Mar et visite de Castro Urdiales pour le déjeuner puis de éventuellement Santander (vieille ville, cathédrale, baie) sur le trajet Murguia --> Santiallana del Mar
JOUR 8 : hébergement à Santillana del Mar et visite de Santillana del Mar, de San Vicente de la Barquera (éventuellement car cela a l'air un peu moins bien que Santillana et Comillas) et de Comillas (avec le caprichio de Gaudia et le cimetière)
JOUR 9 : hébergement à Aller (à 35 minutes au sud d'Oviedo) et visite de Lastres, de la plage avec les empreintes de dinosaures et le centre d'information sur le jurassique le MUJA sur le trajet Santillana del Mar --> Oviedo
JOUR 10 : hébergement à Aller et visite d'Oviedo (y a compris les deux édifices d'art préroman aux abords de la ville). Est-ce qu'il vaut mieux zapper Oviedo et privilégier Gijon, Avilles et Cudillero 😮? Dans ce cas, on ne dormirait pas à Aller, mais plus vers Gijon.
JOUR 11 : Trajet Oviedo--> Léon. hébergement à Léon et visite de Léon.
JOUR 12 : hébergement à Léon et visite de Léon.
JOUR 13 : Trajet Léon --> Burgos. Hébergement à Burgos. Visite de Burgos.
JOUR 14 : Hébergement à Burgos. Visite de Burgos.
Et ensuite, je n'ai pas complètement terminé mon itinéraire (il nous reste 6 jours à boucler, en retournant sur Biarritz) :
- nous visiterons le monastère de San Millan en quittant Burgos ;
- nous visiterons peut être Estella (j'hésite 😮😮)
- puis nous irons vers les Bardenas Reales ;
- nous visiterons Olite puis le Monastère de la Oliva ;
- nous visiterons Pampelune (parc de la Toconera, Citadelle et vieille ville)
- peut être descente jusqu'à Saragosse (mais j'hésite 😮😮).
- un saut peut être à sos de los reyes catolicos mais je n'arrive pas à avoir d'info sur l'intérêt de cet arrêt (vous connaissez ? 😮)
- retour à Biarritz par Saint Jean Pied de Port 😮 ? mais on ne peut pas randonner car les enfants ne voudront pas marcher assez donc la nature pour la nature...et on aurait bien fait le train de la Rhune mais je pense que c'est trop touristique (donc on va galérer pour monter dedans non ? même si on est aux alentours du 24 août?) puis par Zuggarramurdi (visite de la grotte et du musée des sorcières - sous réserve que ca ne fasse pas peur aux petits donc à voir...) Hendaye avec (chateau d'Abadie)
Je ne connais que 75 % de ce que vous avez prévu de voir mais je vais apporter ma touche personnelle : ne zappez pas Oviedo , zappez plutôt Aviles et Gijon.
N'allez pas jusqu'à Saragosse .
Allez au petit train de la Rhune .
N 'allez pas à Santander.
Allez à San Vicente de la Barquera si vous trouvez à vous garer (c'est là haut , vers la citadelle que ça vaut le coup).
Allez à Lastres et Cudillero si vous arrivez à vous garer (un jour de pluie?).
N'allez pas à Estella .
Les petits n'auront pas peur à Zugarramundi , la grotte et le village sont sympathiques , Je n'ai pas vu le musée des sorcières .
Programmez la visite de Santillana del mar tôt le matin et tard le soir et réservez un hebergement à l'intérieur du village et avec parking.
Allez dans les Bardenas Reales mais il y fera très chaud , à Olite et au monastère de la Oliva . A proximité , à Foz de Lumbier , il y a une curiosité (bien au frais ) un ancien tunnel de chemin de fer reconverti en sentier de randonnée .
C'est un peu directif mais il y a tant de choses dans votre parcours qu'on pourrait en faire un livre.
Pour Santander, j'hésitais vraiment, donc je supprime.
Pour Cudillero, il faudrait que je change mon hotel du soir qui est pour l'instant à Aller : le trajet Santillana del Mer --> Aller se fait en 2 heures en passant par Lastres, ce qui est parfait pour nous (en gros, ca nous prendra toute la journée). Si on veut faire un crochet par Cudillero, ca nous fait 2h de voiture pour aller de Santillana del Mar à Cudillero en passant par Lastres (déjà, rien que ca, ca nous occupe toute la journée avec l'arrêt à Lastres) et ensuite, il faut qu'on reparte depuis Cudillero vers Aller (1h de voiture). C'est trop, 3 heures de voiture et 2 visites. A la limite, 3 heures de voiture avec une visite au milieu, c'est plus simple.
- en cherchant un peu, j'ai trouvé un hotel à Arguero. Du coup, mon trajet deviendrait :
JOUR 9 : hébergement à Arguero et visite de Lastres, de la plage avec les empreintes de dinosaures et le centre d'information sur le jurassique le MUJA sur le trajet Santillana del Mar --> Arguero (trajet d'1h30)
JOUR 10 : hébergement à Arguero et visite d'Oviedo (y a compris les deux édifices d'art préroman aux abords de la ville). Arguero est à 42 minutes d'Oviedo
JOUR 11 : Trajet Arguero --> Léon en passant par Cudillero (Arguero --> Cudillero = 1 heure puis Cudillero --> Léon = 2 heures .... 3 heures de voiture dans la journée, c'est vraiment un maximum pour nous ... on déjeunerait à Cudillero et on se balladerait pour que les enfants dorment ensuite deux heures en voiture). hébergement à Léon et visite de Léon.
Vous dites qu'il est difficile de se garer à Lastres et Cudillero : c'est à dire ? l'été dernier, on a fait la Ligurie dont les Cinq Terres, et franchement, ca allait. Bon, on décollait de façon à arriver assez tôt dans les endroits à visiter mais on a toujours trouvé de quoi se garer (sauf à La Spezia où on a trouvé une seule place de stationnement, dans la rue, mais pas un centime pour payer le parcmètre et personne aux alentours de charitable pour nous faire la monnaie sur nos billets... du coup, on est reparti car j'aurais détesté recevoir un PV pour m'être mal garée alors que depuis le début de notre séjour, nous faisions attention d'une part aux ZLT et d'autre part au stationnement). Il y a des embouteillages pour arriver sur les petits villages ? L'arrivée à Cudillero ressemble à l'arrivée sur Santa Marguarita de Ligure ou Portofino (c'était effectivement bien blindé...) ?
Pour Santillana del Mar, on a effectivement pris un hotel au centre ville.
Je zappe donc Estella et finalement, aussi Zuggaramundi (pour ce dernier, je ne sais pas bien pourquoi mais ca ne me dit plus trop rien).
Génial pour Foz de Lumbier ! Je suis fan de ce genre de petit trajet (en espérant que cela décidera ma fille à faire quelques pas !!). J'inclus donc ca dans mes 6 derniers jours.
Pour la Rhune, je sais que c'est magnifique mais je n'ai pas le courage de me faire l'attente nécessaire en août. J'ai vu sur Internet qu'il y a en moyenne 1 heure à 1h30 d'attente l'été si on n'a pas réservé ses billets à l'avance.
Il est vrai que je pourrais toujours réserver mes billets à l'avance mais dans ce cas, il faut qu'on soit sur qu'on puisse se garer à proximité de la gare de départ car marcher avec les enfants, ca peut être vite pénible (on a les portes bébés avec nous mais bon....marcher pour visiter pendant 2 ou 3 heures, c'est sympa, marcher le long d'une route parce qu'on s'est garé à 30 minutes à pied de la gare, ca peut être pénible). Il y a assez de place pour se garer près de la gare en arrivant le matin à 9h00 ? Si le parking est full à 10h, c'est vraiment pas pour nous....
En plus, je sais qu'on reviendra dans le coin ! Y a pas de raison qu'on redescende pas dans le Sud Ouest et là, avec des enfants un peu plus grands, ca sera peut être plus sympa ?
Je sais pas si à 16 mois et 30 mois, il seront en âge de profiter des paysages cet été et s'ils auront la patiente de tenir tout le trajet en train (on se fait déjà régulièrement le petit train du jardin d'acclimatation et c'est limite niveau patience...). Aujourd'hui, ce qui amuse ma fille, c'est marcher dans les endroits marrants (ville avec escalier, endroit un peu escarpé, musée avec des trucs sympa à voir etc.). Mais alors, si y a un endroit où on n'arrive pas à la faire marc her pour l'instant, c'est dans la nature. Le paysage, elle s'en moque, et les feuilles / fleurs par terre c'est pas son truc. Sinon, il faudrait un trajet jalonné de poules, vaches, moutons etc.
Justement à la Rhune , il y a des vaches et des chevaux sauvages sur le trajet.
Pour le parking et l'attente , je ne vais pas pouvoir vous renseigner davantage car j'y suis allée la première semaine de juillet et c'était très calme partout.
Pour Lastres et Cudillero , j'y étais en février .Ce sont des villages très en pente et Cudillero est en plus une agglomération importante .
A Cudillero , en février , j'avais déjà remarqué un problème de parking....
A Lastres par contre , on nous a décrit la situation en été , en février on s'était garé sans problème. Mais imaginez que vous avez trouvé une place tout en haut et que vous descendez et remontez à pied avec les enfants à porter. A Foz da Lumbier c'est tout plat......Santillna del mar c'est à peu près plat.....Presque aussi joli et plus plat , il y a Llanes. Dans le même genre il ya aussi Tazones que j'ai préféré à Lastres .Et je n'ai rien vu de ce qui concerne les dinosaures.

Bonjour, j'ai parcouru cette route à pied, comme bcp de pèlerins.
Je tenterai de répondre à vos interrogations en vous donnant mon sentiment, peut être un peu dans le désordre mais l'essentiel y sera.
Guernica n'offre pas grand chose au voyageur sauf le souvenir du bombardement de 1937.
San Vicente de la Barquera m'a paru plus joli que Comillas.
Gijon ne mérite pas votre visite sauf le port de plaisance. Oviedo est un must de votre voyage.
Santillana est magnifique. Zaragosse vous laissera un souvenir magnifique de part sa cathédrale d'une part et sa vieille ville d'autre part.
Estella, la partie ancienne vaut d'être vue (si l'église est ouverte ce qui est rarement le cas) par le pèlerin qui arrive à pied par cette partie de la ville mais ne mérite pas un crochet.
Les enfants auront raison de ne pas vouloir marcher à SJPDP car si l'envie leur venait d'attaquer le chemin de compostelle... ils verraient que la pente est bien forte dans les premiers kms de marche !

Quel bel itinéraire tu as là, tu as très bien choisi de partir à la découverte d’Euskadi – Pays Basque ! Un territoire avec tellement de richesse naturelle et culturelle qu’il est normal d’hésiter sur quelques destinations lorsque l’on ne peut pas tout voir.
La ville d’Estella est une escale merveilleuse, c'est une ville d'époque romane riche en palais, maisons de maître, églises, couvents et ponts plein de charme. À visiter, le Chemin de Saint-Jacques, la juiverie, le Musée Gustavo de Maeztu ou encore le palais des Rois de Navarre se situant sur la place San Martin, où tu pourras te rafraîchir à la Fontaine de los chorros.
Pour les villes de Gijon, Avilles et Cudillero, ces merveilles sont à privilégier si tu préfères rester sur la côte basque pour des paysages incomparable !
Pour ta halte dans la ville de Gernika, la Casa de Juntas (l'une des assemblées démocratiques les plus anciennes) et l'Arbre de Gernika, patrimoines incontournables. Et pourGexto tu as un large choix avec l’ancien ermitage de San Nicolás, l’Etxetxu, Erriberamune, la place d’Asuerka et l’œuvre d’art d’El Sireno de Getxo.

Un bel endroit pour partir en vacances. Pour connaître un peu le secteur, Getaria, ça peut être original pour la plage, j' y ai de bons souvenirs, de mémoire elle est pas mal protégé. Un bon point de chute à mon avis, un port typique pas loin de Zarautz où il y a aussi une belle plage, mais là c'est plus un vraie station balnéaire avec beaucoup de parcmètres.
Après j'avoue que personnellement, j'ai un petit faible pour le secteur de Lekeitio, le village d'Elantxobe, puis la route de Guernica. Plus loin Cudillero, c'est vraiment très chouette, surtout si on aime les petits ports typiques. J'avoue que j'ai pas de bons souvenirs d'Oviedo, mais c'était il y a longtemps sous la pluie lors de vacances de Pâques. Du côté de la Navarre et des Bardenas Reales, c'est beaucoup plus sec en général. Les Bardenas reales mérite un beau crochet. En été il doit faire très chaud. Comme d'autres je vais dire que la Rhune, c'est pas mal avec des enfants. Je l'ai fait en juillet... Un peu d'attente, parking un peu compliqué, mais ça se fait.

We’re planning a short trip at the end of July to explore the legendary mountains and valleys of the Bernese Oberland: round trip from Nancy (Swiss highway vignette planned), 2 nights in a room with a small kitchen in Adelboden, then 2 nights in a hotel at the Gletscherblick in Grindelwald, both with half-board included.
Could you share some tips on the best road routes to take, as well as some walking hikes (we’re not as fit as we used to be, so nothing longer than 2-3 hours)? Maybe also 1 or 2 cable car rides—I was thinking of Oeschinensee Lake above Kandersteg and the First gondola above Grindelwald for better panoramic views of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau... all while keeping it doable with our schedule. We’ve ruled out the "premium" trip up to the Jungfraujoch for this time.
I’m also guessing that paying to access Wengen or Mürren only makes sense if we’re staying there for a few days, right?
- Is the road through the narrow valley of the White Lütschine toward Lauterbrunnen and beyond still worth it in terms of views and scenery?

I visited the Faroe Islands in late March 2026 for about ten days. I was invited by a friend who lives near Tórshavn, so I don’t have any info on tourist accommodations or car rentals. Still, I’d like to share a few thoughts about my trip:
- Before leaving, I consulted travel guides and blogs. I was surprised by how repetitive and unoriginal the featured sites were. This leads hurried travelers to follow the same overcrowded routes, which can annoy locals. I found that all Faroese villages were interesting—they reflect the country’s identity, even without the iconic grass-roofed houses. Those are indeed harmonious and beautiful, but they feel like an exotic cliché. For activities, I loved the lively ports that keep the country running.
- I was annoyed by the paid trails in tourist spots. Locals explained that these paths cross private land, and owners are responsible for maintenance and safety. There are plenty of free trails, too—signs at the start detail their features. While not alarmist, the extreme and unpredictable weather is a key factor to consider before setting out.
- The wind’s strength really impressed me. The architecture, with doors and windows opening outward to prevent gusts from blowing roofs off, speaks to the harsh climate. Some days, relentless rain and squalls made going outside unappealing. I realized that in this country, it’s best to plan for flexible indoor days.
- Distances are relatively short. I was happy to be based near Tórshavn because it was easy to explore one or more places in a day. The roads are in great condition. In late March, diesel was 2 €. Tunnel tolls can add up (~26 € per crossing), making a fixed base less practical than I’d thought.
- Everyone agrees: the landscapes are breathtaking. Nature feels untamed here—except for the short grass, thanks to all the woolly sheep.
- The flight from Paris to the Faroe Islands (and back) was long in March—11 hours with three legs: Paris-Amsterdam, Amsterdam-Copenhagen, Copenhagen-Vágar. In bad weather, Vágar Airport can close, causing delays. During tourist season, Atlantic Airways offers a direct Paris-Faroe Islands flight, which is more comfortable and cheaper.
- I found a book recommendation in a guide that fascinated me after my trip: *Les collectionneurs d'images* by Joanes Nielsen. Through its sometimes caricatured characters, it offers a glimpse into Faroese mentalities from the 1950s to 1970s—attitudes that likely persist today.
In conclusion, I’ve traveled a lot and I’m tired of destinations that all start to look the same. The Faroe Islands were a delight—a country stunning in its landscape, climate, and culture, where tourism has barely altered its authenticity.

We’re heading to Bavaria from May 13 to 23, with a side trip to Austria.
Here’s our itinerary:
Day 1: Brussels-Munich
Day 2: Munich
Day 3: Munich and departure for Salzburg
We’ll be staying three nights in Salzburg.
Then we’ll head to Garmisch-Partenkirchen, where we’ll stay for five nights.
Visiting Munich and Salzburg isn’t too tricky.
Once in Garmisch, we’re planning a day in Innsbruck, a day for Neuschwanstein Castle, and the rest is still up in the air.
What’s really got me stumped is that we’d love to see Königssee Lake—everyone says it’s a must-see.
We’d also like to visit the Eagle’s Nest (Kehlsteinhaus), where the landscapes are supposedly stunning.
This would either be a round trip while we’re in Salzburg or on the way between Salzburg and Garmisch, but I’m guessing it’s impossible to do the drive from Salzburg to Garmisch, the Eagle’s Nest, *and* Königssee Lake all in one day.
Plus, the Alpine route between Salzburg and Garmisch seems prettier than the highway.
But honestly, I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed with the planning.
We should’ve added a stop between Salzburg and Garmisch, but the hotels are already booked.

We’re planning a trip to Finland and Norway this summer, starting in Oulu to explore Lapland, heading up to the North Cape, and then making our way down to Bergen.
This route means renting a car in Finland and dropping it off in Norway. My initial searches are showing rental rates that are... astronomical—about three times the price compared to returning it at the starting point.

I’m sharing my draft itinerary with you because I just booked our flight tickets, and I feel like it’s quite late in the season. So, I’d like to be sure about my stops before reserving the hotels. I’ll be traveling alone with my two adult children. We want to prioritize outdoor walks, avoid too many indoor visits (both for budget and preference), and not spend too much time on the road.
D1: Arrival at 9 AM in Malaga, day in Malaga and overnight stay
D2: Head straight to Nerja (1-hour drive) and spend the night there
D3: Head straight to Granada (1.5-hour drive), spend the day and night there
D4: Granada. Visit the Alhambra (Nasrid Palaces tour at 5 PM) and spend the night
D5: Head to Ronda (2.5-hour drive) and spend the night
D6: White Villages and overnight in Ronda
D7: Head straight to the Costa del Sol (e.g., Estepona), spend the day and night there
D8: Return to Malaga to catch our flight
There you go! This itinerary takes into account that we’d like to do a circuit starting from Seville in a few years. That said, it’d be a shame to miss something doable from Malaga.
Questions:
Since the Alhambra visit is only at 5 PM, and we’d already have the day to explore Granada, would arriving the day before be a mistake? Or should we skip this day and dedicate it elsewhere (Costa del Sol? Head toward Tabernas?)? The old town appeals to me, but maybe the Sacromonte neighborhood isn’t essential...
Same question for Ronda: should we dedicate a full day to it, or combine Ronda and the White Villages in one day?
Note that we love wandering around villages outside, so that might answer my question! :)
Final question: Is it better to rent the car at Malaga Airport or in the city? If we rent at the airport, we’d need a hotel with parking, which doesn’t seem easy. Or stay outside the city and park for free near the center if possible? I’ve read comments about taking a taxi to Malaga and then picking up the rental car at the airport the next morning. The taxi would really need to be affordable...
