Hi everyone, I’m heading to Madagascar in December 2025 and I’d like to know the one-way fare without checked baggage—just cabin luggage—from Tamatave/Toamasina to Saint-Denis on Réunion Island, please. Also, how many days a week are there connections, and how long does the trip take? Thanks!

I’d also like to know about the route between Réunion Island and Mauritius: where does it depart from, how much does it cost, and on which days are there connections? Thanks in advance!

Best regards,

Hi, Others more experienced than me can give you better info, but from what I know, there’s only one line that does this route. The price is roughly the same as a flight, it takes about a day and a night, I think. The only advantage, apart from the pleasure of traveling by sea, is the ability to take a large bag.

Totally true, I have Réunionese friends who did this back in the 2000s because they had a lot of luggage both ways. Just as expensive as flying, if not more.

Hi there, Here’s some useful info for your trip: ✈️ From Tamatave (Toamasina) to Saint-Denis (Réunion)

There are no regular direct flights from Tamatave to Réunion.

You’ll usually need to go via Antananarivo (the capital).

Tamatave → Antananarivo (domestic flight or road transport)

Antananarivo → Saint-Denis with Air Austral or Tsaradia

Flight duration: about 1h30 between Antananarivo and Réunion.

Price (without checked baggage): around 120 to 180 € depending on the season.

🚢 From Réunion to Mauritius

Easy and very frequent route.

Airlines:

Air Austral, Air Mauritius, sometimes Corsair

Flight duration: about 45 minutes

Price (without checked baggage): between 70 and 150 €

Flights: usually daily, sometimes multiple times a day.

💡 Tip for Mauritius: If you’re planning to explore the island, I recommend renting a car for more freedom. I had a great experience with Crystal Car Rental, reliable service and good value for money. Have a great trip and enjoy your stay! 🌴✈️😊

Hi, thanks for the info, but regarding Mauritius from Réunion, I’d rather take the ferry boat—I’m sure it exists and it’s way cheaper than flying. I don’t need the details you mentioned; I already know all that. Thanks anyway!

Thank you for your message! I totally get it—the ferry option is a great alternative if you're not in a hurry and want a more scenic route. I was just trying to be helpful in case someone else reading was considering flights. Wishing you a smooth and enjoyable journey!

There you go—you have your answer. You need to make the request on their site and specify the dates, but I don’t know the price.
