Alors en ce qui nous concerne nous te conseillons à 100% la Doxycycline.
Non négligeable sur quelques mois, la Doxy est a 8 euros environ (pour 1 mois) la boite ET c'est rembousré par la Sécu sur ordonnance, alors que la Malarone est beaucoup plus chère (de mémoire environ 100 euros pour 1 mois de traitement)... Et oui ça calme.
D'après ce qu'on a compris pas mal de médecins en France ne connaissent pas trop le palu et donc ses traitements. S'ils se renseignent, le "standard" à prescrire est la Malarone. La Doxycycline n'est pas connue.
Ensuite, côté effets secondaires la Doxy rend plus photosensible, donc il faut bien se protéger de ton ennemi le soleil.
De son côté, la Malarone a rendu un ami "liquide" durant toute la durée de son traitement (cocktail smecta+coca tous les jours) ...
Pour finir le tableau, et quelque soit le traitement que tu prendras, protèges-toi bien régulièrement avec anti-moustique, moustiquaire ou clim, manches longues le soir surtout en brousse. Nous avons tous les 2 choppé le palu 2 semaines après l'arrêt du traitement à la Doxy. Pas de bol et manque de vigilance probablement ! Mais je connais des expats ici depuis plus de 10 ans sans traitement et sans jamais avoir eu une once de crise.
Nous sommes bien inégaux devant la piquette fatale.
A bientôt au Gabon, tu verras qu'une fois ici, tu ne penseras plus trop à tout ça et tu profiteras tout simplement 😉 !

oui un medicos que l on trouve dans toutes les bonnes pharmacies africaines depuis 2 ans c est le nouveau "coartem " a base d artemisinine de sanofi (c est pas de la pub c est de l info sorry) tres tres efficace en cas de crise (8 euros le traitement complet pour une crise)
attention c est un "curatif "et pas du tout un "preventif"

Je te conseille deprendre un rdv avec un médecin spécialisé en médecine tropicale qui saura quel traitement donner à ton enfant et recommandations, puis de te trouver un pédiatre sur place...Pour un bébé je ne m'avancerai pas à te donner des conseils sur tel ou tel traitement, (mais tu ne seras pas la 1ere à partir là bas avec un nourrisson!)...
N'oublies pas les moustiquaires au dessus du couffin ou berceau, d'en mettre aux fenetres si possible, de couvrir bébé et toi meme de vetements couvrants le soir (le moustique qui transmet le palu ne pique que la nuit). Attention aux répulsifs que tu emploies pour bébé...Normalment en ville il y a moins de palu, toutefois dans certains quartiers le risque est comme brousse aussi (insalubrité, présence d'eau). La climatisation rend aussi le moustique bien moins actif, ils n'aiment pas la fraicheur!
La saison sèche pour l'adaptation c'est l'idéal et moins de palu à ce moment là. En janvier tu seras encore dans la petite saison seche(Dec-janv). La grande, l'idéale pour s'adapter, est de mai à septembre ( environ, ce peut etre légèrement décalé )...

je pense que un traitement est possible en dessous d'un certain poids(11kg) mais celà sans doute avec certains médicaments seulement, donc dans tous les cas un RDV avec un spécialiste en médecine tropicale...Il y a aussi la fievre jaune qui je crois le vaccin ne peut etre fait qu'à partir d'un certain age...
Bref dans tous les cas antipalus ou pas, il faut toujours moustiquaires, répulsifs et vetements couvrants...voir mon message + plus haut. Celà peut paraitre lourd mais ces gestes quotidiens deviennent vite une habitude.
Au Gabon il y a le chikungunya aussi désormais, donc raison de plus pour se protéger "mécaniquement"...

We're about to go on an organized trip to South Africa, including Kruger Park. We were told that Malarone should preferably be taken in the evening at the same time during a meal. But it's hard to know what time we'll have dinner, especially since I've read that in South Africa, dinner is usually around 6 PM.
I'd love to hear from people who've been on organized trips to this destination and could share their experience. We were thinking of taking Malarone around 7:30 PM, assuming dinner would be closer to 7 PM than 6 PM. Also, if the meal ends up being earlier or later than when we take the pill, would a cookie or a piece of bread be enough to take with Malarone?
I’m planning to set off on a "round-the-world" trip/long journey at the start of next year, lasting between 4.5 and 6 months. For now, the itinerary looks like this: South Korea (2 weeks) -> Japan (1 month) -> New Zealand (1 month) -> Argentina (1 month) -> United States (1 month).
I’m on medication (paroxetine 20 mg/day) and was hoping to bring enough for the entire trip so I wouldn’t have to find a doctor on the spot, deal with a molecule that might be slightly different from what’s available in France, or wonder if that’s even a possibility. Basically, it seemed simpler on paper...
But after looking into the regulations for each country, it’s suddenly way less simple . Many seem to only allow the amount corresponding to the length of your "stay" in the country... Which is a problem if I arrive in Korea with 4.5 months’ worth of medication, for example.

Generally, I understand it’s possible to travel with approved medications (which should be my case), but often with a limit of 3 months’ worth of treatment.
Since I’m going for 12 months, that means for three-quarters of my trip, I’d have more than 3 months’ worth of medication.

It was recently confirmed that this is due to rabies.
The suspected origin is contamination in Namibia by jackals.
The contagion seems to be spreading.
Preventive vaccination (of the animals) is being considered.

Once symptoms appear—sometimes weeks or even months later—death is inevitable.
It’s the bite that transmits the disease.
There are so-called "furious" forms with aggression, but also forms without aggression.
