Must-see spots in Sardinia

Hi everyone, so happy VoyageForum is back up and running! I’m planning to explore Sardinia at the end of April and in May 2025. Could anyone tell me what the must-see spots are for this destination? I know there are tons of stunning beaches and, like everyone, I’m drawn to them. But I’m actually more interested in visits (towns, remarkable sites, curiosities) than the usual touristy spots. Looking forward to your enlightened tips!
Bonne route
For me, it's definitely the north of the island that I loved. Here's my Sardinia itinerary with my must-see spots—it’ll give you a good idea of what to check out. Then you can tweak it to match your tastes! :)

Hi and thanks for your reply. I’d already noted a few sites mentioned in the blog, and that confirms my choices. That said, my friends and I have decided to rent two agriturismos—one in the north, near Sassari, and the other in the south, close to Cagliari. That city wasn’t part of your road trip, but from what I’ve seen and heard, it’s definitely worth a visit.
Our stay (in May, unfortunately not great for swimming) will be different since we’ll be doing star-shaped visits, returning to our accommodation each evening.
Thanks again for the info.

Hi there,
What stood out most from my trip to Sardinia was the Maddalena Archipelago, the Gorropu Canyon, the stunning hike to Cala Goloritzè beach, and the charming town of Bosa.
It might be possible to swim in May. I did it in Corsica at the same time of year, and I’m usually someone who feels the cold!
Sardinia should also be quieter in May than it is in September.
You’ll find some photos and details about the places I mentioned in this travel journal.

Hi there, planning a trip to Sardinia—great idea!
I was there at the end of August, beginning of September '22.
I recommend visiting Cagliari, especially its bastion with the breathtaking view. Then take the scenic route.
The lagoons or salt flats are stunning, with pink flamingos.
When I was there, the Mediterranean was warm—unbelievable! By May, it should be fine. That’s where you really notice climate change.
Happy trip planning!

Thanks for your reply. Maybe we’ll get the chance to swim at one of Sardinia’s amazing beaches. I’ll visit Bosa, which is one of the must-see spots.

Thanks for your reply! I definitely plan to visit Cagliari since we’ve booked an agriturismo near the city. I hadn’t heard about the flamingo lagoons before—sounds like a must-see. Fingers crossed the weather in May treats us well.
Bonne route
