Lisbon or Valencia for a three-night trip

Hi, I’d like to plan a trip for my girlfriend at the end of February/beginning of March for 3 nights. I’m torn between Valencia and Lisbon. I’d love to hear some opinions to help me decide! 😊 Thanks in advance for your replies.

Hi there,

These are two very different cities!

Valencia is a Mediterranean city with great weather all year round (I went cycling in beautiful sunshine on December 31st, 20/21°C). It’s a human-scale city that’s easy to explore on foot, the historic center is lovely, the people are pretty friendly, the food is delicious and sociable (the famous paella, black rice, and the excellent tapas at the Central Market), the streets are lively in the evening, and visiting the City of Arts and Sciences is, for me, a must. Plus, prices are very affordable.

Lisbon is different in many ways. The climate is cooler (Atlantic coast). The vibe isn’t the same—I was expecting the atmosphere of Spanish cities, but that’s not the case. The welcome isn’t as warm as in Valencia. However, it offers a richer cultural scene (museums, castles, towers, monasteries). Some old neighborhoods like Alfama or Bairro Alto are iconic, the views over the hills are unforgettable, and taking tram 28 was a wonderful experience. Prices are higher than in Spain.

If I had to go back, I’d choose Valencia, especially for the vibe, since I’ve already seen the main sights in both cities. But my opinion is totally subjective...

Good evening, With the flooding in Valencia—whose aftermath we’ll be seeing for a long time—I’d recommend switching to Lisbon instead.

Fair enough, I get it. I read that the city itself wasn’t affected. That really makes me doubt.
