Hi everyone. We’re heading to Brazil at the end of August for a month as a couple. Could anyone help us find accommodation and particularly interesting spots along this legendary route? We’ll be renting a car and plan to make 2 or 3 stops, but we prefer exploring on foot or by boat once we’re there. I know that lodging is particularly expensive there and that access to nature is usually on private properties, but our budget is limited and comfort isn’t our priority. Thanks for your replies. Hi! In Poconé, there are some budget-friendly pousadas. Otherwise, the Mato Grosso hotel in Pixaim has a stunning setting—you can see jacarés as soon as you step out of the car. That said, this hotel is relatively pricey. The Transpantaneira ends in Porto Jofre, where there are definitely accommodations. To explore the Pantanal, you’ll need to find a guide who can take you out on a boat. No walking tours here.

Hi,

We also rented a vehicle (a Duster) and drove all the way to Porto Jofre.

We stayed overnight at a pousada along the way. I can’t remember the name. It was by a river. The value for money was pretty poor, as is often the case in Brazil.

We only did one boat trip. Everything else was with our car.

The hotels in Porto Jofre offered discounts if you arrived at the last minute, but even then, they were still quite expensive.

We took advantage of being in the area to visit Chapada dos Guimarães National Park. It was really nice.

I wrote a travel journal after we got back, but it’s not very academic...

Personally, I preferred the Corumbá area, which we also explored by rental car. My feedback on that trip is here (steps 18 and beyond), in a more classic travel journal format.

Hi Agnes, Thanks for your reply. Yeah, your travel journal isn’t too academic, but a trip is a sum of a thousand little details, discoveries, and sensations 😊 I’m also thinking of going a bit on an adventure, but I’m still looking into accommodation options. I prefer traveling without too many location or time constraints. I’m also thinking of going to CDG Park and maybe around Corumbá and Bonito. If anyone has any extra info, I’d love to hear it. Hello, this non-academic travel journal is great!

Plus, it’s about places I don’t know (since I’m more of a beach person), so it’s giving me some ideas… if I can convince my girlfriend to go see some wildlife!
