Je pars à Madrid du 5 au 11/03/2014. La 1ere question que je me pose est celle du temps. Peux- t-on espérer un peu de soleil ou parapluie et pull sont ils indispensables ? je sais ce n'est pas une question facile.
2eme : Certains commentaires indiquent que Madrid n'est pas une ville superbe et que l'intérêt réside uniquement dans la visite des musée. Qu'en pensez-vous ?
3eme : Sergovia est une ville qui mérite une visite d'après un membre du forum. Y-a-t-il des trains fréquents à partir de Madrid et peut-on la visiter en faisant un aller retour dans la journée sans stresser.
4eme : on envisage aussi un aller retour dans la même journée pour Tolède ? Donc même question que pour Sergovia.

La pluie fin février, début mars ... possible, sans doute même probable, mais pas sur de longs épisodes.
Les températures à Madrid ... il faut savoir que c'est la capitale européenne la plus haute (800m) avec un climat continental bien marqué. Il fera frais certainement, et dés la tombée du jour, un "manteau" sera le bienvenu.
Idem pour Toledo ou Segovia. Il pourra y faire relativement bon en journée, mais vous ne vous y promènerez pas en tee-shirt.
Ne vous encombrez pas d'un parapluie, s'il se met à pleuvoir, vous verrez fleurir les marchands de parapluies à la sauvette, et pour 3 ou 4 Euros vous repartirez avec au moins ce souvenir 😛
Madrid n'est pas une ville monumentale qui se visite le "nez en l'air" comme on le ferait à Paris (exemple). Il y a bien sûr les musées, mais aussi il y a l'ambiance madrilène que ce soit en journée (Sol, Gran Via, Palais d'Orient, Plaza Mayor...) mais surtout ne pas négliger les soirées (Sol, Plaza Mayor, Santa Ana, Chueca ...)
Toledo, pas de problème pour faire un aller-retour dans la journée, que ce soit en train ou en bus (compter +/- 40 minutes de trajet).
Segovia, qui vaut, au moins autant, la découverte est un "poil" plus loin, et, la ville est aussi belle de nuit comme de jour. Différence notable avec Toledo, le vieux Segovia (entre l'acqueduc, la Cathédrale et les remparts) est animé le soir alors que Toledo est "trés calme" dés que les commerces du vieux centre ferment.
Je ne vais jamais à Segovia en train ou bus, mais je sais qu'il y a des liaisons fréquentes au départ de Madrid (compter +/-1h).
Pour Segovia, le mieux (à mon avis) serait de visiter un vendredi (pour la vie en soirée), d'y arriver en fin de matinée, prendre une chambre d'hôtel, découvrir ses lieux monumentaux et historiques de jour, puis de les revoir de nuit ... c'est superbe ! Pour une éventuelle visite nocturne de Segovia, un vêtement chaud sera nécessaire. Sur mon blog (adresse en signature) vous verrez, si vous le voulez, quelques photos de cette magnifique ville, qui est, pour moi, une des plus belles villes espagnoles.

Vu vos projets de visites, outre le budget, je pense que votre critère de choix d'un hébergement à Madrid devrait être sa localisation, ne serait-ce que pour profiter pleinement de la ville, et ne pas être contrainte de faire de longs parcours en métro pour revenir à l'hôtel, surtout de nuit.
Il y a une offre abondante, comme vous y serez à une période relativement calme, vous devriez pouvoir trouver le bon compromis localisation-prix.
Sachez, notamment pour rentrer de nuit, qu'il est facile de trouver un taxi ou que l'on se trouve, et que les tarifs sont peu chers.
Désolé, mais les hôtels que je fréquente (Chamartin, Gran Legazpi ...), donc que je connais, sont un peu excentrés, puisque je privilégie la facilité d'accés aux rocades (M40 - M50), et le parking.
Si vous trouvez une "offre" qui vous intéresse, je pourrais, éventuellement, vous donner MON avis quant à la situation de l'hôtel.

J’avais déjà été visité votre blog et ce sont vos commentaires qui nous ont donné envie de faire un petit tour à Ségovia. Nous avons réservé un hôtel à Madrid (Tryp Cibeles sur la gran via) et nous ne ferons donc qu’un aller retour dans cette ville. Dommage pour la visite nocturne. Nous n’avons pas l’habitude de réserver les hôtels pour découvrir un pays mais pas pour les capitales.
Qu’entendez- vous par ambiance madrilène de jour comme de nuit ? Est-ce dans la rue, restau, bar ... ?
Nous sommes un couple d’une petite soixantaine d’années. Nous voyageons souvent, toujours en individuel mais nous sommes, hélas, fâchés avec les langues étrangères. On baragouine en anglais mais pas un mot d’espagnol. Est-ce un pb pour apprécier cette fameuse ambiance madrilène ?
Nous nous sommes faits « arnaquer » à Barcelone dans un bar à tapas (90 € à 4 pour quelques tapas de qualité très médiocre) et nous aimerions éviter ce type déception . Pourriez-vous nous indiquer des restau et bars à tapas sympa, de bonne qualité et à des prix corrects où le touriste n’est pas attendu comme une vache à lait. C’est vrai que le fonctionnement des bars à tapas n’est pas facile à comprendre quand on ne parle pas la langue.

par booking.com , j'ai reservé un 38m2 , Juan Bravo Salamanca , pour 315 € les 7 nuits ; je crois le prix très raisonnable ; une station de metro est proche parait-il ; je me réjouis !
Vous avez choisi deux lieux d'hébergements trés différents quant à la localisation :
- Juan de Bravo se trouve dans le haut du quartier de Salamanca, à l'écart du Madrid "touriste".
Vous serez dans un quartier populaire, tranquille, ayant sa vie propre et pas du tout affecté par le flux des touristes ou des rues commerçantes. Ce quartier est assez animé mais tranquille, et le sera également en soirée si vous voulez chercher un endroit pour dîner ou simplement faire des courses. Mais je ne connais pas l'établissement que vous avez choisi.
- Tryp Cibeles, n'est pas proche de la place du même nom ! Je ne le connais pas "de l'intérieur" mais simplement de l'extérieur pour y être passé plusieurs fois devant. Il se touve derrière Gran Via, un peu comme si à Paris vous étiez dans le quartier des grands magasins dans les petites rues proches des boulevards.
Une fois les commerces fermés (21h/22h), les alentours seront calmes et plus grand monde dans les rues. Pas loin vous aurez la zone de Chueca qui est un lieu de vie trés prisé pour les soirées.
Je suis abasourdi !!! Il n'est pas possible que vous ayez payé 90 Euros pour des tapas !!!!!!!! 😐😐😐🏴☠️🏴☠️🏴☠️
Vous avez du commander à la carte ou alors vous avez vraiment des têtes "d'américains" 😕
Pour vous donner une idée, les "tapas" ou "pintxos" ne coûtent jamais plus de 3/3,50 Euros dans les villes les plus chères, comme San Sebastian par exemple, ce qui fait avec une boisson, maxi 5/6 Euros !! Aprés ce sont des "raciones" que l'on commande à la carte.
Mais comme je le dis dans mon blog (article paseo y tapeo), la "vraie tapa" est OFFERTE !!! C'est ce que l'on vous donnera pour grignoter avec votre verre. Selon les endroits c'est trés variable, la meilleure région d'Espagne pour cette pratique étant celle de Grenade - Jaen.
Mais quand on lit votre expérience, pourquoi voulez vous que les patrons se prennent la tête quand ils constatent que l'immense majorité des touristes est disposée à payer ce qu'ils avaient pour habitude d'offrir ... à de rares exceptions, tous les endroits "connus et courrus" sont passés à ces pratiques payantes.
Agnès et Pillault ... je vous répondrai plus tard en "privé" afin de vous donner trois ou quatre points de chutes pour manger dans le centre de Madrid. Ce ne sont que quelques bars ou restaus, dans lesquels j'aime bien aller, ou je ne serai pas "plumé" et ou je sais retrouver l'ambiance madrilène. Mais bien évidemment il y en a beaucoup d'autres.
Segovie : tu y vas en bus d'une gare routiere dans la partie ouest de Madrid , desservie par le metro .
Arrivée à Segovie , en 10 mns de marche tu atteins le celebre acqueduc romain , ensuite petite montée
vers le chateau forteresse.
Il existe plusieurs bus par jour. Faisable en une journée .
Tolede : 30 mns en train rapide depuis la gare d ' Atocha .
Arrivée à la superbe gare de Tolede , tu sors et tu attrapes une des lignes de bus qui montent à la vieille ville .
Ceux-ci te deposent à proximité de l' Alcazar ou certains ont leur terminus. Sinon ils redescendent et s'arretent à une peite place juste un peu plus bas.
Faisable en une journée , mais te renseigner sur les horaires de retour de la RENFE, car en fin d'apres midi il n'y avait
plus de train.
Vraiment deux villes interessantes.

I’ve planned a three-week itinerary for this summer, from August 9 to 27, in Sri Lanka:
Negombo – 1 night
Sigiriya and the Cultural Triangle – 4 nights
Kandy – 2 nights
Ella – 3 nights
Tangalle – 6 nights
Colombo Airport – 1 night
I know this isn’t the ideal time for the south since the beach conditions aren’t great, but we’ve booked a hotel with a pool and won’t be swimming in the sea. We want to relax after all the travel since we’re bringing our two kids, aged 6 and 8.
I know the east would be better, but (i) I’m struggling to find suitable accommodation, and (ii) it adds a lot of travel time, and my kids can only handle about 3 hours at a stretch.
I looked into Arugam Bay, but it’s a 7-hour trip back to Colombo from there.
I’ve checked every weather site imaginable, but they don’t all agree. Do you think we’ll spend our whole trip in the rain, or is the monsoon in the south mostly limited to the sea, as I’ve read?
I’m worried about ending up in the middle of a natural disaster with my two young kids, given recent events.

This year, 2026, I can only get away in April and May. I never travel during these months usually, and from what I know, they aren’t the best for India. But in such a big country, there are always spots that are better than others weather-wise.

I’ve looked into a few different options: Brazil, Cambodia, and Ecuador. The last one really appeals to me, but what’s making me hesitate is the risk of our trip being a bit too rainy (literally ),
We’re more drawn to the Andes, exploring colonial cities, typical villages, markets, and a bit of the coast. We’ve already gotten a taste of this in Bolivia, Colombia, and Chile. Plus, we’d love to do part of it by car since we’re used to driving at our own pace and stopping whenever we feel like it. Anyway, time’s running out, and I need to decide so I can finalize a route and book the tickets!!

I’ve planned a trip to Asia for the first half of November.
I’ll arrive in Singapore at the start of November for about 3 days, and I’ll leave from Bangkok in mid-November.
In between, I’d like to gradually head north to visit some less touristy islands on the Thai coast.
Since the weather is a big risk during this period, I’d love to hear your recommendations.

Just giving you the quick context: A group of friends and I are planning a trip to South Korea (Seoul/Busan) at the end of June/July next year. It falls right in the middle of the monsoon season, but we don’t really have other availability options.😕
I’d love to hear from people who’ve visited the country and these cities during this period—basically, is it not as bad as it sounds, or should we just cancel our tickets (we don’t mind the heat, it’s mostly the rain that scares us).
I know there are plenty of indoor activities, but do you think we’ll still manage to get a few sunny days, or will it be torrential rain for our entire 2-week trip?
The only other country we’ve visited during the rainy season is Brazil (in the northeast) around the same time, and honestly, aside from a few really annoying downpours, we had sunshine most of the time and it was awesome. That said, the climate is totally different, so I’m not sure how relevant the comparison is.

Not sure if guidebooks, agencies, and other tour operators are keeping up by changing their visiting hours and offerings.
Personally, I see a promising opportunity here—jumping on this adaptation to extreme climates before others do, since they’re inevitably coming.
From my own travel experience, I’ve met a few guides so far who are starting to adjust, like in Egypt, Kenya, Senegal, and elsewhere.
They avoid crowds and the hottest hours by starting their tours around 6–7 AM, when it’s cooler.
Yeah, you’ve gotta wake up early, but the payoff is so worth it. 😴
If you’ve got any great tips like this, why not discuss them in this thread and share addresses or websites where the people in charge have realized climate change is real and are adapting? 😊

Hello, We’re heading to Finnish Lapland near Rovaniemi as a family at the end of February with two kids (8 and 14 years old). We’ve got direct flights with Luxairstours. The itinerary is already set, but I’m wondering if anyone has traveled with Luxair before and knows exactly what kind of clothes they provide on the second day? The agency just told me it’s a heavy-duty cold-weather suit. I’m thinking we should get Sorel Caribou boots, maybe second-hand. Here’s what I’ve already planned:
- Thermolactyl leggings and tights from Damart for the whole family as a base layer.
- A first layer of Damart socks + Nordic Stocks socks in 70% merino wool for all four of us.
- Loose fleece layers, including some Polartec.
- Ski pants for hikes.
- For my son and me, a The North Face Himalayan down parka with a hood.
- A ski parka for my husband and my 14-year-old daughter (she *really* wants a Roxy one—I hope it’ll be warm enough).
- For myself, for the flight and the first day at Santa’s village, I’ve packed The North Face winter hiking pants, a long-sleeve merino wool top from Decathlon (thin), a fleece, and my big parka.
I’m wondering if I should just pack fleece joggers or sweatpants for the kids and my husband, at least for the first and last days, to be comfortable on the plane?
I’m also planning to buy balaclavas and neck warmers in addition to our beanies, as well as mittens for all of us. I really need advice because I have no idea—I’ve never been skiing! Also, for a 4-night, 5-day trip, should I pack a second set of base layers, like from Odlo?
Of course, I’ll be leaving cotton clothes out of the suitcase.
As you can tell, I’m someone who gets cold easily—especially my feet, hands, and ears—so that’s my biggest worry. I *don’t* want to be cold, even at -20°C during dog sledding, snowmobiling, or aurora hunting when we might be standing still. We won’t be in the city, and the kids will likely spend most of their time outside, as they usually do.
