Hi there, I’m planning a trip to Mauritius in February and I’d love some details about the weather there. I’ve gotten a lot of conflicting advice—on many websites, it says February in Mauritius is strongly discouraged, but when I check the temperature history, it seems like the best time (for those who love the heat and swimming without any issues). I’ve noted that it’s a month with frequent showers, but nothing compared to the monsoon season in Asia. Any thoughts? Thanks

Hi there,

In February, it's the austral summer. If you love the heat, it's the best season! The water temperature hovers around 27 to 29°C. Occasional afternoon showers are to be expected. But in Mauritius, the weather is pleasant all year round. During the austral winter in July/August, it's cooler and drier, and the water temperature doesn’t exceed 23°C. Just keep in mind that weather isn’t an exact science, and it can vary from year to year. February is also cyclone season—on average, there’s one every 5 years, with varying intensity. The one in 1975 was particularly devastating :(

Thanks so much for your reply. 1 out of 5 is still a bit risky though

Not all of them are devastating either. Once, I went with my family to Madagascar (east coast) in February (school holidays in France). Two days before we arrived, there had been a cyclone... We stayed for about two weeks with amazing weather. After we got back, we found out that a second cyclone had hit the island!
