Avec un ami, nous avons le projet d'ici quelques temps (disons, pour faire large, avant 5 ans) de faire un "périple" en bécane jusqu'aux steppes mongoles. Meme si le projet ne se fera certainement pas cette année, ce site, mon ennui au travail et mon "envie d'aventure" (j'aime pas trop le terme, ça fait bon occidental de base qui a besoin de se mettre en danger ... meme si cest pas completement faux) m'ont poussé à regarder les itinéraires possibles...
Au passage je signale que je suis un passioné de bécane (1 mois sans deux roues et je suis agressif) mais surtout, pour le moment, pour le coté pilotage de vitesse. J'ai deja effectué quelques trajets en Europe chargé comme un mulet avec des etapes de 800 bornes.
Alors voila, CEST PARTI revons un peu et regardons les cartes:
on commence par un Paris --> Trieste (1300 bornes) histoire de se chauffer un peu (avec sympathique traversée des Alpes), comptons 3 jours de voyage (je ne pense pas avoir le désir de faire de grande pause sur ce trajet la...) pour ne pas se crever des le depart et peut etre prendre quelques nationales.
CROATIE : longeons l'Adriatique (il parait que cest zoli) et descendons tout au Sud (Drubovnik). En comptant large (mais peut etre que je me fourvoie), il y a en tres gros 600 bornes à faire en 4-5 jours histoire de profiter de la cote 🙂
SERBIE-MONTENEGRO: pouf on bifurque plein Est et on quitte l'Adriatique pour traverser le Montenegro et le Kosovo (zoli zoli ... d'apres les images de guerre que j'ai pu voir 😕 ) pour arriver en Bulgarie à Sofia. Comptons 400 bornes et 4 jours...
BULGARIE-ROUMANIE: on traverse la Bulgarie de part en part (facile) pour arriver à la fameuse Mer Noire (Varna) ... puis on longe la cote (possible? pas possible?) pour arriver à la frontière ukrainienne. Comptons 800 bornes et 10 jours (faut bein en profiter non?)
UKRAINE: on continue à longer la Mer Noire (zlaime bien), on passe par Odessa pour finalement longer la mer d'Azov (j'ai aucune idée de ce à quoi ça peut ressembler usine? pas d'usine? qui cest Azov?) pour arriver à la frontière russe à Rostov. Comptons re-800 bornes et re-10 jours ... sauf si cest pourri bien sur 😕 auqel cas en deux jours cest torché
RUSSIE: on tire tout droit jusqu'à la mer Caspienne (sisi) en passant par le Nord de la Tchetchenie (glurps est-ce prudent?)
pour arriver à Astrakhan sur la Volga (la claaaasse) près de la frontière kazakh. Comptons 500 bornes et 5 jours...
KAZAKHSTAN: Début du VRAI voyage : c'est grand, cest desert cest tout ce qui me faut (hum enfin ca a lair). On traverse donc ce gigantesque pays Ouest en Est. Comptons 2500 bornes et 3 semaines (aaaaah ca fait longtemps que j'ai pas pris 3 semaines de vacances 🏴☠️ )
MONGOLIE: Poussons jusquà la capitale (tant qu'on y est). 1500 bornes et 2 semaines.
Puis vente de ce qui reste des pauvres engins et retour en avion...
8500 bornes et 2 mois 1 semaine ... disons 3 mois pour prendre en compte les pannes et autres heureuses ou moins heureuses rencontres
ca peut le faire finalement...
Prochaine étape, consulter des photos des endroits dont je parle ... parceque si ca se trouve, j'ai fait le tour du monde des villes industriels et des coupe gorges

jusqu'en Bulgarie, pas de problème, mis à part peut-être Serbie/Montenegro pas top, mais çà se fait. Roumanie également même si les routes sont qqfois pourries et il faudra faire un (léger !) détour car le delta du Danube est un marécage. Aprés ??? ce n'est pas moi qui te le dirai ...........

puis mise de la moto dans le train jusqu'à Irkousk si il me reste assez de temps pour revenir par la mongolie et les stans, sinon je descend plus tôt et ne fais "que" les stans
je m'inquiète un peu du temps et de l'usure de vos machines que vous allez consommer dans les pays de l'est à l'aller, prévoyez 2 montes de pneus par principe
j'ai beaucoup de documentation sur la région, donc si vous passez sur paris, pas de problème pour se voir
je vais chercher dans ma liste de sites ceux qui pourraient vous aider

Pout tout savoir sur les steppes mongoliennes, je te conseille sans réserve le DVD "Long way around" (London to NY), un must pour les amateurs de "free biking" (dispo sur amazon.fr)... effectivement, très peu de bitume en Mongolie mais quelles paysages... à couper le souffle.

Je découvre avec un peu de retard ce message (mais je ne consulte pas ce site ts les jrs).
Je ne peux que vs encourager à mener à bien ce projet.
Pour ma part, je suis allé en Mongolie à moto en 2005: 3 semaines de France à Ulan Bator en solo, 3 semaines en Mongolie en duo avec mon épouse qui était venue me rejoindre en avion, 4 semaines de Ulan Bator à la maison en solo pour le retour.
L'itinéraire : Allemagne, Danemark, Suède, Finlande, Russie (St Peters, Moscou, Kazan, Ekaterinbourg, Omsk, Novossibirsk, Krasnoyarsk, Irkputsk, Ulan Oude), Mongolie et arrivée à Ulan Bator.
Quelques variantes sur le voyage retour.
En Mongolie, ns voulions visiter notamment le nord mais trop de pluie et donc trop de boue et la moto par terre plusieurs fois par jour, donc retour sur Ulan Bator, direction Karakorum et de là le sud et le Gobi.
La moto : Africa Twin Honda, un peu plus de 100 000 Kms au départ.
Aucun pépin mécanique, juste l'entretien normal, par contre la chaîne est rentrée à la maison à bout de souffle, et les pneux aussi. Ils ont en effet fait l'aller et le retour (24 568 Kms), merci Michelin.
Routes plutôt en bon état en Russie, mais conduite des russes plutôt en pas bon état ! (réel danger) + nombreux contrôles de vitesse .
En Mongolie (sur les itinéraires que ns avons suivis) : bon goudron entre la frontière russe quand on vient de Ulan Oude jusqu'à Ulan Bator (attention à Darkhan au nord de UB, toutes les plaques d'égout étaient absentes, réel danger !) goudron en très mauvais état entre UB et Karakorum, goudron tout neuf entre UB et Choyr.
Les cartes : toutes les cartes détaillées sont en vente libre, notamment une boutique mentionnée ds le Lonely Planet.
En France, on peut faire avec les cartes aéronautiques ONC (1/1 000 000è) ou TPC (1/500 000è), c'est la solution que j'avais choisie pour préparer les itinéraires à l'avance.
A signaler un atlas routier mongol très utile en vente à UB.
Pour la Russie, il n'y a que l'embarras du choix parmi les atlas routiers vendus ds les librairies.
En tout cas bonne préparation, et n'attendez pas trop sinon l'envie s'en ira.
Pour ma part, j'aimerais aller la prochaine fois jusqu'à Vladivostok et le ferry pour le Japon, mais ceci est une autre histoire.
🤪Suite à votre merveilleux périple, pouvez vous me dire l'état des routes russes Moscou-Irkoutsk entre Juin et Septembre, températures, inondations, neige, contrôle de police etc... que j'envisage traverser en simple renault 11? je pense laisser ma super ténérée au garage.
De plus est-il raisonnable de traverser seul ces contrées (plaques françaises) que l'on m'a fortement déconseillé car de vrais coupe gorges? connaissez vous quelques parades pour être le moins possible confronté à ces désagréments si ils peuvent se présenter. Je suis en train de plannifier un periple semblant pour cet été, départ de Paris en aôut, déstination la Mongolie, pendant environ deux mois, en moto moi avec ma femme.
La moto sera une BMW R 80 G/S du '86.

J'ai donc fait la route Moscou Irkoutsk à l'aller en juillet 05 (orages d'été courts et brefs tous les jours, température environ 25°), au retour fin août (la température était aux alentours de 10-12°).
J'ai fait le trajet russe AR seul.
Tous les soirs je dormais ds un hôtel où je devais obligatoirement payé pour le gardiennage de la moto (beaucoup à dire sur la dite insécurité en Russie).
Aucun problème rencontré avec ma moto et mes plaques étrangères, je ne me suis jamais senti en insécurité (sauf sur la route de par le comportement des russes au volant).
De toute façon, il est très difficile avec une moto occidentale de passer incognito, c'est peut-être plus facile avec une Renault 11.
J'ai rencontré d'autres motards, des français en 4x4 (leur site est une mine d'infos http://www.javanosi.fr/, d'autres en camping car, des jeunes à vélo (plusieurs fois), des coureurs à pied...
Maintenant, on peut toujours rencontrer le malade du coin, mais çà c'est pas propre à l'étranger...
Etat de la route : correct sur l'ensemble du trajet, excepté une section environ 500 kms à l'ouest de Irkoutsk qui est en travaux sur 200 kms par tronçons d'une vingtaine de kms.
Aucun souci pour l'essence, le jerrycan est inutile.
Police, 2 types : les contrôles à l'entrée de presque toutes les villes. Ils arrêtent à la tête du client. J'étais arrêté une fois sur 2, par curiosité pour la moto. Eux ne mettent pas d'amende. la police de la route, militia, qui arrondissent leur fin de mois grâce aux excès de vitesse. Maintenant, il ne faut pas exagérer non plus, j'ai eu 6 amendes, les moins chères 100 et 200 roubles et une fois 500 roubles. De toute façon, ne pas discuter et rester courtois.

I just realized I’ve been registered on VoyageForum since... March 28, 2012 😊. Yet, I’ve barely participated until now.
August 1, 2026, will mark a somewhat special milestone: 5 years on the road.
We left Switzerland on August 1, 2021 with a simple idea: let chance decide our direction. We placed a bottle of wine on a world map, spun it... and it chose our first destination.
A year later, when we arrived in Morocco, we faced a new choice: continue toward Africa or head to Asia. This time, a tarot card game made the decision. Since then, we’ve tried to keep this journey as open to the unexpected as possible.
Today, that adds up to about 120,000 km, 46 countries, and over 1,800 days on the road—mostly by motorcycle, but also by sailboat, train, bus, hitchhiking, or on foot when adventure calls.
Our guiding thread isn’t just the motorcycle, but service exchanges. Instead of simply passing through countries, we try to stop regularly to lend a hand to the people we meet. So far, that’s about 600 days of volunteering.
Over the years, we’ve:
renovated a house in Croatia
made earth bricks in the Moroccan desert
helped sail a boat through the Greek islands
looked after houses, dogs, horses, a camel... and lots of other animals
worked at a street art festival in Morocco
created videos for local associations and projects
worked the grape harvest on the Tibetan plateau
been accredited as "media" for the World Nomad Games in Central Asia
Some of the moments that have stuck with us the most include six months in China, a night spent on the Great Wall, the Pamir Highway, the Silk Road, three months in Taiwan, and the incredible encounters in the mountains of Central Asia.
We travel on Falkor, our lucky dragon—a 2014 BMW F800GS that’s been with us since the start and is starting to have some great stories of its own.
While we share our adventure on Instagram, Polarsteps, and YouTube, that’s not why we’re here. The forum’s rules about promotion are clear, and I totally get them. If I’m finally taking the time to write, it’s mostly because after five years on the road, I thought our experience might be useful to other travelers.

I’m planning a motorcycle road trip to Armenia and Georgia in September 2026 or May 2027. I’m looking for one or more riders (male or female) who’d like to explore these countries with me.
Along the way, we’ll visit Cappadocia, the capitals Yerevan, Tbilisi, Sofia, Skopje, and other cities—we can finalize the route and roadbook later.
This trip requires experience with long motorcycle journeys, as we’ll cover around 7,000 km over 5 or 6 weeks (or more, depending on sightseeing and time spent).
I don’t expect dozens of applicants, since motorcycle riders are few and far between on this forum, but I’m putting this out there anyway.
I’m starting to think about a trip that’s really close to my heart: Algeria by motorcycle, specifically the southern part of the country. It’d be for January 2025, and I’ve got two main questions:
Is it possible for an individual on a motorcycle to travel freely, outside of any organized tour, or does the regulation require some kind of supervision in the Algerian Sahara region?
Is the Hoggar massif accessible by road or by (rideable) tracks?
Beyond the official recommendations, I’m really looking for your firsthand experiences.

Why not explore the Peloponnese!
I’m not particularly drawn to museums, ruins, or monuments.
I want to experience local life—small villages, seaside spots, beaches, and the interior if the landscapes are extraordinary.
Ideally, coming from Athens, I’d take a bus or train to get as close as possible to a starting point, then rent a scooter (125cc) to explore by taking secondary roads or even coastal paths. I’d stay in 2-3 places for a few days each to discover their surroundings.
Do a loop.
What do you think would be the ideal itinerary?
From Athens, the best option would be to take either a flight or a bus to Kalamata. Rent a scooter and head either west or east. Is there a tertiary road (very lightly trafficked) or a path where I can ride slowly, take it easy, and enjoy the scenery without being bothered by traffic? I’d like to go all the way to Monemvasia, still hugging the coast. I need to find a way to avoid returning to Kalamata to drop off the scooter and catch a flight—maybe a small town where the train stops so I can head back to Athens.

I’ve got 15 days off in June and I’m pretty undecided about where to go for a motorcycle road trip. Two strong desires are pulling me in different directions: Corsica or Norway.
Corsica has been a dream of mine for a long time: legendary roads, stunning landscapes, a unique vibe, and the perfect mix of sea and mountains. At the same time, I’m wondering if 2 weeks might be *too much* for Corsica—risking feeling like I’ve seen it all too quickly, especially on a bike.
Since I also have an extra week free in May, I could use that specifically for Corsica. Maybe splitting it into two trips would make more sense? If so, which routes or regions would be the most interesting to plan for a 7-day trip?
On the other hand, Norway is *super* appealing. The landscapes look incredible, totally different from anything I’ve experienced, and it’d be a real “wow” trip. I know 15 days is still short for such a vast country. Getting all the way to the North Cape seems pretty much impossible in that time, but I’m curious about what realistic routes could be planned.
So I’m wondering:
Is it better to save Norway for next year, take 3 weeks off, and do it *properly*?
Or are 15 days enough for a first amazing taste of the country?
I’d love to hear about your experiences—whether it’s Corsica (ideal duration, routes) or Norway (what’s realistic in 2 weeks on a bike).

Hello! We’re planning a motorcycle trip that will include a visit to Auschwitz-Birkenau in June 2026.
We’re unsure (still debating) whether we should stay at a hotel on-site and get to the memorial with an Uber (leaving our bikes at the hotel) and book a guided tour, or base ourselves in Kraków and take a tour that includes transport.
One thing’s for sure—we’d prefer a guide in French since we don’t speak English 😅.

Unfortunately, I’m worried that parts of the N630 may have disappeared or merged with the A66 motorway, forcing us to ride long stretches of highway, which we’d rather avoid.

This is our first motorcycle trip in Morocco. I got my license two years ago with the dream of taking this kind of trip, and here we are! ✌️😍
In France, we usually ride between 300 to 400 km per day on roadsters. We’re not used to off-road tracks, so we’re looking for easy ones 😅—especially for me 😅.
For Morocco, I’ve planned stages of 200 to 300 km per day.

Can we take our helmets with us in the cabin, or should we pack them in the checked luggage surrounded by clothes to avoid damage?
