Hi

Which taxi app do you recommend for Senegal? Are there shared taxis from Dakar Airport to La Somone? If not, do you have an idea of the price for a taxi?

Thanks in advance

Hi René,

To answer your question, you can use the YANGO APP (Play Store or App Store links below) for taxis. It’ll cost you between 3,000 and 10,000 FCFA. For each ride, the options and prices are displayed in the app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.yandex.yango&hl=fr https://apps.apple.com/sn/app/yango-taxi-repas-livraison/id1437157286?l=fr-FR

There are also private taxis at the airport that go to the city of MBOUR, from where you can head toward La SOMONE. These taxis usually raise their prices (between 15,000 and 25,000 FCFA, sometimes more), but don’t hesitate to negotiate all fares down (around 11,000 FCFA). It’s common practice.

Another option is the air-conditioned bus service run by the public company Dakar Dem Dikk. There’s supposedly (I’ve never taken it) a shuttle to MBOUR for 3,000 FCFA. The shuttle within Dakar costs 6,000 FCFA. You can even book the latter online here --> https://booking.demdikk.sn/reservation.php

In any case, make sure to ask for additional info from the officials at the airport if you’re unsure.

I’m also available if you need more help. I’ll try to get back to you as soon as I can.

Hi Abrx, You seem to know your stuff—I’m heading to Senegal in a month with a friend, and I had some of the same questions. Does YANGO only work in Dakar? We’ll be spending a week in Casamance, and we’re wondering how to get around from place to place. Does YANGO work down there too? If not, is it easy to rent a car for a week? We’ll be exploring spots like Cap Skirring, Karabane, Kafoutine...

Thanks!

Hi there! 👋

For Senegal, here’s what I can share with you:

📱 Taxi apps • inDrive (works well in Dakar—you propose your price and drivers accept or counter-offer). • There are also a few local apps, but they can be less reliable depending on the area.

➡️

🚖 Dakar Airport → La Somone

From Blaise Diagne International Airport, there isn’t really an official shared taxi service directly to La Somone. You can find shared taxis or "sept-places" (seven-seater cars), but they aren’t organized right from the airport and aren’t always practical with luggage.

💰 Indicative price for a private taxi: Generally, expect between 25,000 and 35,000 CFA depending on the time, season, and your bargaining skills. Always agree on the price before getting in.

➡️

🚗 Private driver option

Personally, I booked in advance with Lazare Taxi Private Driver for my transfer, and it saved me the stress upon arrival. What I appreciated: • Punctuality at the airport • Price agreed upfront (no last-minute haggling after a long flight) • Reassuring driving • Clean, air-conditioned vehicle

After a long flight, it’s comforting to know someone’s already waiting for you.

➡️

If you’re traveling light and want the cheapest option, local solutions are still possible. If you want a smooth, direct trip to La Somone, booking in advance is simpler.

Safe travels! ☀️🏖️
