Hi there, We’re planning a trip from Darwin to Perth (about 6 weeks) in a campervan. The reviews for the main rental companies (Star RV, Indie Campers, Apollo, Britz—just to name a few) are terrible. What should we make of that? Is it just the unhappy customers who complain? So, who should we go with? Thanks for your help

Hi there,

We’ve used Britz and other rental companies for 4x4 campers. Never had any issues, even when we pushed the vehicle to its limits.

We rented a van from Travellers Autobarn for 3 months. We didn’t have any breakdowns. The van was good. We had an accident with emus that crossed the road right in front of us. The van was totaled. We waited a week and got a new van. The staff in Darwin and especially in Perth were really friendly. I’d rent from them again if I get the chance to go back. Don’t take the rental company’s insurance. Go through Rental Cover. It worked well for us.

Hi there,

We’ve used Camperdays for rentals and never had any issues.

We’ve been to Australia three times, and each time we rented an Apollo campervan.

One small downside—the last time, we were missing a frying pan in the kitchen supplies, but that was quickly fixed by popping into Woolworths or Coles. 😉

In Perth, the staff are really friendly.
