Hi there, I’m planning to spend a week in Lapland from January 4th to 11th, 2025. It’s one of my dreams that I’ll finally get to fulfill—I’ve only been to the mountains once before, at Les 2 Alpes when I was 19. I’ll admit, I’m usually more drawn to warmth, the sea, and islands, but I have this crazy desire to discover this incredible region.

For those of you who’ve been lucky enough to go, could you please share lots of tips so I can make the most of my trip? What clothes should I pack, what local dishes should I try, and what souvenirs should I bring back? Thanks in advance!

Hi there! I regularly travel to Finnish Lapland in the winter, so here are a few tips on how to dress. First layer: technical base layers (top + leggings) that you can find at Décathlon. I wouldn’t recommend going for the cheapest option. Then a fleece and ski pants + a ski jacket. Make sure to get good after-ski boots like Sorel, a warm hat, ski gloves, and optionally a ushanka if it’s really cold. In Finland, when we do a snowmobile or dog sledding safari, the provider usually lends us an extra-warm overall. I’m sure it’s the same in Sweden. For food, reindeer is a must-try! 🦌
